Why is it that whenever I try to backup a movie where the main movie set has multiple PGC's, I run into trouble (RecordNow refuses to burn the movie). I use scenarist for the authoring. I notice that the problem arise whenever I have a movie that directs the "playfirst" to one of the PGC's in the main movie files. So far, the 2 movies that gave me problems are Femme Fatale and City By the Sea. Both of these movies have multi-PGC's in the main movie VOB set. I demuxed it via PGC, not VOB. (I'm not sure if that would make a difference?) I updated it with IFOUpdate. It even plays OK on WINDVD, but RecordNOw refuses to burn it (and I trust RecordNow, b/c if it refuses to burn it, then that means something is wrong because even if I force it to burn, it won't play on my standalone player). Your suggestion is much appreciated.

I´m only guessing here - does your compilation contains some "zero bytes files"? If yes then simply delete them and correct VTS sectors with Ifoedit or Ifoupdate again. It could cause the problem.
You should also try to burn it anyway (whatever RecordMax say) on some DVD+-RW to be sure there is something wrong.

I'm not sure what you mean by zero byte files. Are we talking about VOB files that are 0 bytes? I have a vts_02_0.vob file that's 0 byte. So should I delete it and update all the vts? I'll try that. BTW, RecordNow is pretty good at predicting these things. So far, it hasn't failed me yet. If it won't burn, then it won't work on a standalone even if I force it. Thank you.

I tried to burn it again after deleting the vts_02_0.vob file. It still didn't work. I made sure I IFOupdated the files. If you can think of any more suggestions, please don't hesitate to tell me. Thanx.

This is what I have meant. This VTS_2_0.VOB should have been deleted anyway because standalone player ignore these "empty" files. Can you describe the way you re-author this DVD in Scenarist. Maybe there is some error . What exactly did your standalone after inserting disk??

I authored the extra (vts02) and the main movie (vts01) separately. I then copied the generated files (VTS_01_x.VOB and VTS_02_1) over to the VIDEO_TS folder (which already contains all the IFO's, BUP's and the VTS_xx_0.VOB files) Then I run IFOUpdate on VTS01 and 02 (BTW, it shouldn't matter which one of the VTS I update first, right?) Anyway, the second time around, I deleted the VTS_02_0.vob from the Video_ts folder, and Recordnow still didn't want to burn.
I have to confess though, I didn't even try to force the burn this time, because Recordnow has always been reliable when it comes to this. Everytime I force a burn (probably 10 times or so on different occasions in the past), the discs always end up being coasters. The standalone would just say "no disc" detected. But if you think this case may be different, I can try burning it on a RW disc and see if it's a potential coaster.

Eventhough coona suggested to correct VTS sectors, I don't see any 'Get VTS Sectors' step in your precedure. Ofcourse its a trivia thing by now, but this is your error if u haven't perform any. Ifoupdating the file isn't enough.
