According to the article, it's only the disc with ultra-high resolution WM9 that uses DRM. I wonder if the quality of the WM9 version is really that great -- I'd love to hear opinions of people who have seen it.
And this 5-day-limit DRM stuff gives me the shivers. Is that the direction things are going?

The picture quality of this wm9 dvd is really very good, but i'd like to have a way to rip it down to dvd-5 and remove that stupid drm stuff.
And there are some demo files in the windows media section of www.microsoft.com, so you won't need the dvd to check out the amazing quality

A friend of mine made me a copy of the T2 WM9 video on 2 DVDs. These played fine on my computer that had the license downloaded from the original DVD. Now the 5 days has passed and whenever I put the disk in the drive it comes up with the message License aquisition and sits there doing nothing. Can this video only be watched for 5 days or am I missing some vital file that it needs to aquire the license?

Like, maybe, THE ORIGINAL DISC?!?
I know it's Micro$oft, but give them enough credit to design a system that'll disallow the renewal of a DRM licence if you're using a frickin' copy instead of the real deal. And the fine people who released DVD with DRM enabled on the HD copy did so to keep people from doing exactly what you've tried to do.

The Quality can't compare to real HDTV stuff. It has a resolution of something like 1440x1080p, but is not very much sharper than the dvd version. It doesn't show you how 1440x1080p can look like.
- Only the wm9-files are protected. You need to have the original disc in your drive to aquire the license. And you have to live in the US or Canada to do that. There are ways around that, you'll find them in a big thread in the AVS-forum.
- You have to renew the license every 5 days
- Where your wm9 files are located is irrelevant.
