I am not sure which forum to post this in, generally it is a DVB question, but as I only have a question about the audio, I think this may be the better place.

I have extracted a recorded show from my sat receiver and it resulted in two files, the m2v and the audio file.
The show was broadcast in AC3, yet to make sure I get the whole show, I recorded 5 minutes earlier and 5 minutes longer. Unfortunately, the additional 5 minutes front and back were NOT AC3.
So what I have now is an audio file which has 5 minutes of MP2 in the front, then 3 hours of AC3, and again 5 minutes of MP2.

I would like to create a Divx or a DVD from this show, but sure enough I would like to get rid of the additional minutes. Unfortunately, I am not able to tackle this audio stream.

The default extension after extracting was .MP2. I can rename it to .AC3 and use the VDubMod I can load the audio and get the info:
FmtTag: 0x2000, SampFreq: 44.100, Channels: 4, bitrate: 48kb/s
If I encode a piece from the middle, GSpot analyses the encoded piece (the sound):
ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc, 48 kb/s (4 ch), 44100 Hz
It also tells me I have 2 compatible codecs, AC3Filter and the Cyberlink Audio Decoder. Yet, I hear nothing :-(

Well, my questions:
What am I doing wrong? And how can I do it right? How can I keep the AC3 in my encoded Xvid file?

Thanks for listening
Bucky

easy enough, just cut your file properly. You can do that with TMPG under mpeg tools -> merge and cut.

Not sure about the ac3 capabilities of TMPG though.

Anyway, you got the idea...
