I'm a noob around here, so please be gentle. I've been encoding divx for a little while now, and still kinda getting the hang of it. So far I've gotten some pretty good rips, but the volume of the audio seems to be pretty low. It's alright if I'm using my home system w/ reciever becuase I have plenty of extra power, but If I play them anywhere else, I have to crank it up all the way, and it's still a little quiet. What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have any ideas? I'm using Gknot, but now that I look, I don't think it's the newest version. Is that it, or am I setting something else wrong? Any help is appreciated.

The rips you got hasn't been normalisez.

We're going to need more info about your audio. Post the format, source type, encoder used, logfile if applicable, etc. As Sirber said, some normalization in the encoding process or by the audio decoder could help.

Also be wary of rule 12a (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm).

i'm not exactly positive what you need, but I basically so far just follow the gknot guides. I use dvdecrypter to rip the vobs then dvd2avi to create the d2v files and demux the audio track, then use divx 5 and virtualdubmod to encode/mux. as far as the type of audio, I usually use a vbr mp3, but have experimented with that and the results are the same. In encoding, I just mux, and don't change anything. That's all that I can think of for right now, if you need more, I can surely get more. Thanks for the help guys.

On a side note to the rule 12a, my first two posts were almost 14 hours apart, and had only been viewed 5 times. I was at least hoping to get some views so maybe somebody to help me. I realize that unneeded bumpage is annoying, but it doesn't do much good to post something and have it dissapear without at least a single response. Sorry if I offended anyone

Regarding rule 12a, my apologies, didn't mean to accuse you of anything, just making a note, you seem to have a good grasp of the rules. Perhaps I shouldn't have even said anything.

Back on topic, I'm not tremendously familiar with GKnot as I don't use it, but I believe it uses BeSweet for audio transcoding. There have been a number of users that encountered low volume with BeSweet transcodes, for more info on that look here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15738) and check out some of the open issues. With an MP3 source, there's no playback solution other than turning up the volume, there is to my knowledge no DShow filter that gains MP3. There is software to gain the file prior to muxing, do a google search for MP3Gain. Other audio formats such as AC3, when using AC3Filter from the Doom9 download section, have options in the filter properties for gain and dynamic range compression. Alternatively you could also transcode your audio with HeadAc3he (http://darkav.de.vu/), which might help narrow down your problem. A logfile posted from BeSweet could possibly also yield some helpful information.
