Is there any way to truly treat ghosting from the source?
I'm capturing from a channel on my digital cable which for some reason unknown to me is ghosting. I've tried some solutions, like Ghostbuster, the virtualdub filter. It works OK, but it only does the luma component and not the chroma, so it is stoll noticable. The only other ghost-fix filter I could find was a avisynth implementation of ghostbuster.
I'm trying to lobby my cable company to do something about it but I don't think that will work. So, any suggestions?
P.S. I will post non filtered samples (stills, no web-space for .avi) shortly. The ghost is very noticable on text, not so much otherwise.

Both samples with text:

Notice not only is the word obviously ghosting but look at the woman's body, her arms are blue which they are clearly not intended to be) (note: the interlacing hasn't been altered)

There seems to be one or more 'ghosts' of the word here.
I picked samples from commercials as I wanted to ensure that it was the broadcast causing the ghosting and not whatever it was that this channel was broadcasting at that time.
Oh, and a correction, ghostbuster was the name of the avisynth implementation, the vdub filter I tried was called 'exorcist'.
Any suggestions, or am I just going to have to deal with it?

And here's a sample from a TV-show...

Notice the green (from the grass) on girl on the left and notice the glowing edge of the girl on the right.
I know what it is I need to do, I just don't know how to do it. I need to move the chroma over n pixels, just like I can do with the luma w/exorcist.

You can use the chromashift plugin (with AviSynth).
A small request: could mail me a small testclip with this chroma shift:
*) raw clip (no resizing, no deinterlacing, etc.)
*) compressed to XviD @ 2Mbs (1-pass, quality 85)
*) no audio
*) size: about 1 Mb.
You can mail me at w.j.dijkhof at tue dot nl. If you upload it somewhere, you can make a larger clip. I would be very gratefull if you could do this.

OK, I will be doing that later tonight when I have time/disk space. Thanks for your input and help :)

I never did send Wilbert a sample.. if you're reading --my apologies, things were overlooked.
But I did just stumble upon his guide:

Would like to thank you, Wilbert- I will try that out on my side.

actually, i had such an issue with my sat-receiver. turned out the sat-company knew they had this issue with their equipment. the technician that came to my place addmitted that there was an issue, but that no one else has noticed it so far. we tried another new receiver. got same results. thet's when i asked milan to add chroma shift to his ffdshow, and then he added it. (i'm a freak of PVR-like functionality, so i hate 2-pass encoding. i like to get the best from one-pass and various filters).
anyway, i later moved to another company with better equipment ;)

And speaking of ghosts... from analog broadcasts, the actual horizontal sync and the colour burst leave a ghost on the active part of the picture. Since the sync and colour burst are never captured, what does filters like "exorcist" do to combat these problems?
PS: I have never used 'exorcist', but have a signal which when I move the antenna, it only makes it worse. I will need to use this filter (or a ghost removal filter) in the future to fix this issue.
