I recently just got Ulead DVD Workshop and began a project for converting a DV tape. Anyways after the process of burning, there is no sound in my set top player, but there is sound when i put it in the computer. Also, there is sound when I play the VIDEO_TS folder through a software DVD player, but just not on my settop. Is this because I burnt it to a DVD-RW or is it something else? Any help would be appreciated.

DVD Workshop probably compressed the audio to MPEG-2 audio. MPEG-2 audio is an optional audio format for NTSC players, and many older NTSC players will not play it. (All PAL players, on the other hand, support MPEG-2 audio).

You will have to burn your disc again and use LPCM audio, or purchase the Dolby Digital upgrade for ULead DVD Workshop and use AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio.

Be aware that LPCM audio takes a LOT more space than either MPEG or AC3, and you may have to specify a lower bitrate for your video to get it to fit, depending on how much video you're putting on the DVD.

I am not sure that this is the case because when I put it in my DVD player to play and look at my digital A/V receiver, it says that the stream is dolby digital...is it possible that i would even have a dolby digital stream from a digital camcorder? if not, then i guess that might be my problem, and if it is how do i specify what type of sound to use in ulead? any help would be appreciated...

dv tapes don't have ac3 sound. The transformation of the audio to an ac3 stream must have occured inside ulead's programm. Perhaps your amplifier needs a specific selection from you in order to decode ac3. It might be switched to decoding dts instead.

you have probably got your dvd player hooked up to your a/v reciever only using the digital connection, which would mean the reciever would recieve raw PCM, raw DD, raw DTS or raw m2a depending on what stream is playing.

im taking a guess that it doesnt support m2a, so is getting confused and possibly giving up (or taking a guess at dd, which can be really bad).

use PCM audio or ac3 as was mentioned in a previous post.

Yes, my A/V reciever is hooked up with only a digital connection (digital coaxial)....i guess that this could be the case....my receiver displays that it is a dolby digital signal that is being sent, but i dont know if that is true.....the audio files that i used in Ulead are mp3's, so Ulead converted those files to some other audio stream, im guessing mpeg audio....how do i either get Ulead to convert to a different stream or get it to work on my player? would hooking up my dvd player with regular rca's as well as digital coaxial help? also would using a WAV audio file for my project be better for Ulead to convert. Please let me know.

Also, I would prefer an ac3 stream, how do i go about upgrading my software to support it? is there anyway to convert mp3's that i have to ac3 also? thanks...

Your amplifier would benefit from rca connection in a way, cause it can playback analogue audio as well. Whether it can handle mpeg audio or not is described in its specs. What brand and model is it? Does it have any mpeg audio logo, next to ac3 or dts?

I think ulead has an upgrade option for ac3 sound. Check its site for it.

I hooked up my reciever to DVD player with RCA's as well and it seems to work fine. I just have to switch the the digital input on the receiver so that it can receive the analogue source from my dvd player when i play these dvd's from ulead dvd workshop. I guess my player plays mpeg audio after all. Are most current dvd players mpeg audio compatible or is this fairly rare feature. Thanks for all the help guys.
