View Full Version : Demux and *remove* audio from AVI?

I have a {DivX + VBR MP3} AVI file that was created with GKnot and I assume Nandub. I want to demux and remove the audio completely into its MP3 file and remux it with AVIMux_GUI. It gets the error message in VDub every time you open the file that the audio is incorrect.

I usually never have GKnot mux my AVI's in the first place, and just post-mux it with AVIMux_GUI. But in this case, I needed the new GKnot to handle a video split for 2 CD's, so I had it do the audio as well.

What's the best way to remove the MP3 intact so I can remux it again?

Thanks,
Robert

Open the avi in Nandub or VirtualDubMod and goto File/Save Wav and save the audio. When saved, rename the file with a *.mp3 extension.
Done.

That will remove the audio too?

One other question. If the original AVI was created with a audio offset of -66ms, as some MP3/AC3 files require, will I need to remux it again with the same delay? Or was it permanently corrected in the first mux in the original AVI?

No. Just copies the audio to a seperate file. Does not effect the original.

.....will I need to remux it again with the same delay?
Yeap.

So remuxing it again over the original AVI will overwrite the audio? I don't need to remove it?

To remove the audio, simply put no audio on the audio tab and video on direct stream copy and save to a new avi.

You don't always have to correct the delay while remuxing. Actually I don't really know when to enter it again and when not, I guess it has something to do with the application used for muxing. So sometimes when you correct the delay again, you'll get async sound, and sometimes if you don't correct the delay, it will be async, so test first.

And may I ask why you would want to mux it with avimux? doens't make any sense to me! avimux is no better than nandub or virtualdubmod

@Awatef

His original question...

So selecting "No audio" in Nandub is useless.

@valnar
So remuxing it again over the original AVI will overwrite the audio? I don't need to remove it?

Yes it will. It is possible to have two audio streams though (secondary stream)

If Alexnoe finds this thread, I'll let him answer that question to the technical merits. I just prefer it because it works with every AVI player I have without sync issues.

always muxed with VD, or ND or VDM, never got sync problems, whatever you like, CBR MP3, VBR MP3, mono, stereo, AC3 of all kinds

@ The Edge
I answered the part of removing audio from an AVI file, you misunderstood me.

shouldnt this be perfectly possible with virtualdubmod (not need for nandub anymore anyway imho (except for divx3))

open file -> streams -> stream list -> (mark audio stream) -> disable -> save as .avi
