Link thingy (http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=12129&category=main)

Dare we download it?
Download Windows 2000 SP4 - Network Install (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/6/a/e6a04295-d2a8-40d0-a0c5-241bfecd095e/w2ksp4_en.exe)130mb

Some fixes are classics....like "an attempt was made to remember a device that had previously been remembered", and "stop error occurs when you start the computer for the first time". :)

Same here. I'll wait a few weeks.
That particular download should be made final in a couple of days.

Looks like I am going to be getting even busier at work.
I am currently supporting about 100 2000 SP3 desktops and about 6 servers by myself.
I think my job is secure for a couple of more weeks.

what I do is put sp4 on a few workstations at work unbeknownst to them and see if they complain. If not then I'll roll it out. Pretty interesting EULA. Basically it'll automatically try to shoot out to the internet as before you'd have to check windows update for it to do so. DRM stuff is a joke.

The SP4 download slowed to a crawl today. In fact, I was only pulling around 12KB/sec from the windows update site. I tried from multiple locations around town.

Thats pretty impressive considering that Microsoft has some of the best download servers out there. Its rare that I don't max out my connection downloading from them.

@Pamel, it's maxing out my ADSL here at 300kb/s.

Here's some more links:

I'd also wait at least 2-3 weeks before deploying any SP's. As always with these MS patches, they both fix and break more than what's documented, even though most of these updates has been available through Windows Update for a while. The SP has also been beta tested for a while. I've so far heard of a dussin installations, all problem free fortunately. On the other hand, that was probably all w2k Pro's with no fancy services installed.

...and you can of course slipstream the SP onto a bootable install CD if you wish to, as usual. Instructions here for example:
