I used dvd decrypter in the 'IFO' mode to rip selected chapters of a dvd. When it was done ripping it created one 'ifo' file called vts_01-0.ifo and i see all the 'vob' files in there. But the problem is i can not play the dvd using any software. it will not just open the ifo file. Only dvd2one was able to recognize that ifo file and let me shrink it.How do i play this dvd? It happened to me on more then one dvd.

The IFO file is invalid if you rip in IFO mode. Its only copied across for reference and because people wanted it to be!
If you intend on working with the ripped files in another program, you should be using File mode.

IFO mode is used for program that are 'dumb' and just want to be fed a video stream.
Its great for converting to other formats like vcd, svcd and divx.
I think that if you rip all the files and then use something like CloneDVD, DVD2One or InstantCopy, you'll be able to remove certain bits and make the dvd you want. Im not sure if they go down to chapter level though :-/

Thanks for your reply. I think none of the transcoding programs(i tried dvd2one, dvd shrink) out there dont let you select the chapter you want.

Just create new IFO files with IFOEdit.
Use the original VTS_01_0.IFO just to copy subpics' colours and paste them into your new VTS_01_0.IFO (again with IFOEdit),otherwise you'll get green and fuzzy subtitles.

Hey, that's interesting. I used smartripper to extract half the chapters of a movie, from a titleset with several program chains. The original ifo file appears to be copied over. Then I had ifoedit process this ifo file and the vob files to scrunch down the angles to one, and of course, simplify VTS_01_0.IFO. In a new directory, it generated a VIDEO_TS.IFO file, and the VTS_01_0.IFO and VTS_01_x.VOB files so that the entire set could be played on windvd. Lo and behold, the subtitles are green and blurry, even though they should be white. Apparently somewhere in the transferring, the subpic's colors got creamed. Thanks for the tip. I'll check to see whether smartripper or ifoedit creamed the colors.
