I've Hauppauge Go card and it does make lines when I capture full PAL resolution and especially capturing from VHS. Capturing software used are VirtualDub and AVI_IO, WinXP VFW drivers.

Do you have any USB-devices like a joystick or gamepad attached?
Sometimes those corrupt the captured signal resulting in such a behaviour.

Yes I've an USB mouse! But removing it isn't my thought :(

Just try it!

USB HIDs are well known to cause those lines . If you have a further look at them, you'll notice that they're from some frame before the actual frame.

http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/supportedcards.html

If you haven't already checked it out.
Hauppauge WinTvGo has the Bt878 chipset AFAIK.

He'll get those lines also with the btwincap drivers.
I had a BT878 based card some time ago, and I tried both drivers (manufacturer & btwincap).
As soon as I plugged my gamepad in, those lines appeared.

Is it possible that vkem is seeing interlacing artifacts?

I was thinking the same thing.
vkem, go to this site
http://www.progressivescan.co.uk/interlaceddisadvantages.php
and look at figure Figure 3.2, is that the type of lines you're seeing?

I know what are interlacing artifacts, but these are randomly placed. And they are appearing anywhere they want even after deinterlacing, it seems that the pixels in that random corrupted line are moved to left or right. Interlacing artifacts are narrower and there are much more of them than these corrupted lines.
