Hi folks,

During the past two weeks I've been trying to find out whether or not my DVD player (United DVD 3055M) is capable of decoding SVCD 5.1 audio?

My problem is, that I've not been able to determine whether AC3 5.1 and MPEG5.1 audio is based on the same decoding-scheme or if it is two seperate "things"?

The DVD player itself has an AC3 5.1 decoder and I've got a 5.1 speaker system, and when decoding DVD AC3 5.1 everything works just fine.

Therefore I tried to make a DVD > SVCD using MPEG5.1 using I-Author 1.0 and CDMage to convert the .cif's to .bin and .cue, but it did not seem to work.

Does that mean that my DVD player simply is not able to decode MPEG5.1?

I would appreciate any help/info you can provide.

Btw. I have, ofcourse, been searching/browsing/reading/etc./etc. everywhere on this forum, but it seems that many people just cannot agree on this matter.

What do you mean by it didn't work? Did you get no Video and Audio, or just no Audio?
Also I think that the SVCD standard called for MP2 audio.

Oops, I forgot to mention that. Sorry.

By the "failed attempt" I mean that everything worked as before. Video and audio was there, but it was in stereo - or at least the audio was only coming the two front speakers, not the center and surround speakers.

I monitored the encoding of the test sample (a chapter of Red Dragon) myself, so I'm positive that I had selected MPEG5.1 as audio-output (at least I-Author wrote "multi-channel surround" while processing the images) @ 44,1 kHz - 192 kbps.
