View Full Version : How do I control the "menu" button in Maestro?

I just finished a project with DVD Maestro, and everything worked great, but there was one snag--the way Maestro configured the files, if I wanted to return to the main menu, I discovered that pressing the "menu" button on my remote had no effect; I had to press the "title" button to get to the main menu.
This makes sense, but how do I set things up so that a user can get back to the main menu by pressing the menu button also? In looking over the help files I didn't see anything that described this button.
Wait... I think I just figured out what is happening here. You can control the action of the "menu" button on the remote by filling in the blanks on the "connections" window in Maestro for "set menu key," right? I'll go back in and fix that.

Did it help? I´m able to define first play and title menu but I´m not able to configure root menu (or how to say it :)).
And another problem - in one my menu I´m able to choose buttons during playback and in another I´m not . I have to wait until the end of playback. Both menus have the same settings. Any idea?

sounds like you have the 'loop' setting wrong on one menu.

Thanx for the tip. So loop enabled means possibility to select button durin playback, still enabled means wait until end of playback?

still means that the clip will be played as a 'transition', and only the last frame will be used for the menu selection, and will be paused there till the menu timeout value is reached.
loop will let you have an intro transition, and a looping section of footage for the menus, or if you want, the whole clip for the looped menus.

Coona:
If you create a menu (background with subpicture on top)you are able to tell Maestro what to do about displaying that menu. For example, you can set the menu so that it will display for 30 seconds and then go somewhere else, or you can freeze the menu.
If you use a video for the background, you can now do something else: you can tell Maestro to "loop" back when it reaches the end of the menu video. You can adjust, using a slider, just where to loopback to in that video. Also, the subpicture you have dropped on that background video won't show up until the video playback reaches that looping point.
For example, suppose you have a 30-second video to use for a motion menu. You edit the video so that the first 20 seconds are an "intro" for the menu, and the last 10 seconds are the part of the menu where you want the user to be able to make a selection. When you set up the menu in Maestro, you need to drag the loop slider to the point 20 seconds into the video. You also drag your subpicture into the menu. Now, when your DVD plays, the first 20 seconds of that menu video will play normally, and then your subpicture highlights will suddenly appear on top. Ten seconds later, there will be a brief freeze and your video will repeat, starting at the point 20 seconds into the video.
Does that make sense?

Perfect!
Thanx a lot.
And did you solve your first problem with DVD (or root) menu?

Thank you boys!!!
My menu is perfect :D. Root menu problem was very easy to solve - I just added my subpicture selection menu to movie1: Menu Key at it wokrs flawlessly. Nice and easy.

I thought I had the menu issue solved (see the first post in this thread), but in burning a test disk, I see it still doesn't work the way it should. Basically, I went back into the Maestro connections window and set the "Menu key" for the first chapter of each video to return to my main menu, which is the same return point that the "Title menu" points to. But on playback, pressing the "Menu" button on the remote control has the effect of just freezing the video for a second or so, and then resuming the playback.
Funny thing is, if I play the VIDEO_TS file on the hard drive with WinDVD, the Menu function works fine, but it won't work on my Apex and Toshiba DVD players.
Help!

I concluded the following sad remark.
If it works OK in the PC its just an indication that it might work on a standalone

I have the same problem with the menu button from Meastro DVD,s. With PowerDvd it works fine but on my Pioneer standalone it does nothing. However if I press title 1 then the menu button I get the menu. go figure!!!

but gif only supports 256 colours, hence why i chose the newer png format for full colour + transparency support.

just can't resist pointing out. This automobile doesn't have more than 256 colors in it.

possibly
and i probably chose a 8-bit PNG as well, i cant remember if i did or not, but the 8-bit PNG was smaller than any of the gif options (using photoshop 7.0 ctrl-alt-shift-s web export)
