Integrate changable subs in avi ?

hey everyone,

I have searched through the forum and found a range of different approaches and methods. Currently I am using VobSub to rip subs and I use DirectVobSub to view those. This of course gives me the situation where I have to keep the .idx and .sub (or .rar) in the same directory as teh original movie.

I just saw that VirtualDubMod has a feature where .srt streams can be integtrated in the movie permenantly. Is there an easy way to convert from .sub to .str (i've tried SubRip, was terrible with OCR)

Perhaps there is another way to have changable subs integrated in the avi? Any suggestions would be apreciated.

i think there is no other way to get text from pictures than using OCR.
And SubRip is quite good at that..did you try OCRing directly from the VOB ? you don't need to .idx stuff first..And character matrixes can be reused, at least for all episodes of a series it should work :)

Hi. I'm still wondering what version of vobsub does not have in its directories the "subresync.exe" for converting vobsub subs to ... srt for instance. :)

Such utility can only convert for one text format to another text format. The VobSub files are a text file for index(time stamp etc.) and a sub file containing bitmaps. So if you want to get text sub out of bitmaps, a utility for OCR such as subrip etc. is imperative.

I would recommend you to use SubRip.
If it makes too many OCR mistakes you can use the habilities it includes for correcting the text already ripped (in the text window, you go to "Corrections"->"Post OCR Correction" and choose the options you want the program to auto correct).
The bad thing about this is that it sometimes corrects things wronlgy. I mean, it turns wrong something that was correct.
Another alternative is to use a mini console program that I created that is called ContextSubCorrector (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55984). It is not as complete as the SubRip´s one, but it generates a log file with the corrections it made, so you can undo the changes you don´t like.

Yes, of course. I forgot to mention, but you should use Word after using either SubRip or ContextSubCorrector or any other similar.
Those programs corrects automatically some common mistakes, but does not use a dictionary, as Word does.

If you want the sources of my little program, just ask for them and I send them to you. Maybe you can adapt them. The program was made using ansi C.
