Source: Avid QT DV NTSC video
Target: MPEG2
I encode video with Procoder V1.01.35. When play it back, video seems a little jerky. I also try to encode with ProCoder Demo V1.25, and video playbacks smoothly. Settings on both Procoder versions are the same. I even try to upgrade encoder engine, but it doesnt solve. Procoder V1.01.35 doesent fully support Avid QT DV video?

I asked a similar problem about 2 weeks ago, got 80 looks but no answers... maybe with two of us we can get a clue...
-------------------
Jerky/Stuttering Procoder encode...
OK, I know I'm doing SOMETHING wrong, but I can't figure out what.
The problem. Have a set of SVCD MPEG2 files I need to re-encode up to DVD (it's my only choice, don't have the original sources any more, players I need to put them on don't like SVCD in DVD clothing. Re-encode is mandatory).
The input files:
480x480 (duh)
23.97 with pulldown to get 29.97
trying to just do a straight resize/encode in Procoder (have about 80 hours to do, so I want to take a simple path, ie. without AVSynth, et.al)
Mo matter HOW I mess with this, the output video has "hiccups" in the output (when played on the 'puter, haven't burned yet, but read on).
Loaded the output files in both an MPEG2 editor an VirtualDubMod and checked, I'm getting a block of 6 frames in a row repeated every 30 or so (well, duh.. 23.97 to 29.97).
The original SVCD files plays smoothly.
I've used Pulldown to make the SVCD stream back to 23.97
I've tried encoding both upper and lower frame first
I've tried encoding non-interlaced
I've tried encoding and the running pulldown on the output
and I've permuted everything I can think of.. no luck, still the 6 repeated frames in a row (causing the picture to stutter/freeze every second or so..)
I KNOW I'm missing something, I've searched and read and can't find anything that fits this particular problem (I probably missed it) but I at least admit I'm clueless here...
What am I missing???

Sorry, my information probably can't help you. My source video is exported from Avid Xpress DV with Avid QT DV codec, and from here I go straight to MPEG2 encoding with CCE/Procoder without any filters. CCE gives very good MPEG2 quality video. I just try Procoder, and it seems to me Procoder gives better MPEG2 quality than CCE.
I have problem only V1.01.35, not demo v1.25. I check Canopus site. There is information Procoder v1.5 with new improved Avid QT quality.

then it seems the problem you have has been fixed, and there is an enhancement in the newest version?

No it's solved. I try to capture video to AVI file via Mainactor. The resulted mpeg video plays back still not smooth. Video seems stuck at an short interval and continues play back. It doosent happens with Procoder Demo version.

I have been reencoding my svcd to put them on dvd's. I have procoder 1.5. I never have a problem. I always encode 720x480. 29.97 fps. It is a stable powerful encoder. I had a couple of tv shows with currupt spots and it encode right thru with losing audio sync. Give version 1.5 a shot. It is much better than 1.35. The only problem I can see, is it's sooooo sloooow.
Rombaldi,
Try to run your SVCD mpeg file through simple muxing in TMPG - mpeg tool with mpeg2 vbr selected.
Then feed the new file to procoder.
Good luck!
