hi. i'm currently in the process of converting all my avis to vcd because it will take longer to rip the dvds again.

it's taking me time becuase i have to use many programs to do it properly. for example, say if the avi is 23.96 or 29.something fps, then here's what i do:

Open virtual dub and extract the audio as wav.
use avifrate to change the video framerate to 25 (UK)
use bsweet to encode the audio to 25fps and 224bps
then start tmpeg and encode them both to mpeg
when that's finish, use tmpeg to split them up
then use vcdeasy for each half to get chapters and to make images
then Nero to burn the images

that's 6 programs for each movie.

what i'm asking is is it possible to get a program whcih i just type in all the settings one time and then press the "go" button and it starts all the programs after each has finished and does it all basically so i don't have to check every now and again if it has finihsed. possible??

a good example is dvd2svcd. is it easy to just get that program and edit it so it points to hte programs i want and the settings i want??

i may be asking for too much but it's worth it just in case it is possible.

thanks.

dvd2svcd can do the job for you, using the standard progs. that come with it (input: dvd or avi). I suggest you give it a try and read the proper docs.

k seems ok althgouh i haven't actauly used it properly yet. i've read the FAQ and searched the forum, but i still can't find one thing. can i add chapters to an avi? in VCDEasy, there's an option to add chapters every --:-- minutes and this makes it very easy to fast forward/rewind in a standalone.

i've found how to apply existing chapters from a DVD source, but avi's don't have chapters. at least mine don't.

In short, no. You can't add chapters to an avi, the "chaptering" is a feature of the VCD/SVCD and also DVD file format on the disc.
You can create chapters in your final Mpeg-1 (VCD) or Mpeg-2 (SVCD) in VCDEasy. IN DVD2SVCD you can also add chaptering before encoding your avis to Mpeg. It's under the CD Image tab.

If you use OGM (or matroska - dunno if it's already implemented there already) instead of avi, you'll have the possibility to use chapters.
