Sorry you feel this way.
Understand that strikes are only warnings, unless you receive 3 within a 30-day period. Strikes are private, unless the moderator (or the forum member, as in this case), make it public. R4/R6 are our most serious infractions, and count double.
Strikes also have an appeals process, which you failed to use. From http://forum.doom9.org/sanctions.htm:If you wish to contest a strike send a PM to Doom9 with a reference to the post in question and an explanation why you think the strike is not justified. In case of a suspension you can send a complaint to strikes at doom9 dot org. The email is only to be used in case of a suspension and you forfeit your right to an appeal if you use it to contest a regular strike not leading to a suspension. By publicly complaining about a strike, or go badmouthing this forum and its members on another board you also forfeit your rights to an appeal.

Oh, I get loads of strikes. After some time you get used to it. No need to leave the forum ;). It's annoying, yeah, but if you can keep it below 3 within 30 days it's all fine :). I got 5 so far (suspended once, I need to be careful right now cause I still have 2 "active" :D), all by the same mod :rolleyes:. Luckily there aren't many more mods who like to pick on me :cool:.

There should be a new forum rule: Those who admit to be proud getting strikes once in a while should also get a strike for that :) Anyway, let's keep the focus ...

Wilbert,
You didn't get me. There's no pride here, I was just meaning things can happen on a bad day, no big deal.
(Besides, I had a look at LotD contributions here and I think it is a pity he decides to leave).

@waldok,
I wasn't talking about you. Sorry for the confusion.

@waldok
Wilbert's comment was for mf, and just to be funny :)
We all agree with you I think.

Lucky then that I'm not proud of it :). It's just that it seems to be inevitable for me, I'm already really careful, but it just isn't enough. I try to keep strikes at a minimum, but when they happen, I just don't care. If I did care, I'd get angry, leave the forum, and lie to myself about the fact that I love A/V, because this is simply the place to be if you're interested in that. If there were a good alternative, I wouldn't be here, because I feel very uncomfortable with the strict rulekeeping. So this is just the tradeoff I have to make.

I don't suppose someone could make a Nice Mod/Mean Mod list? Or would that be strikeable? ;)

Strikes don't have a mod name attached. They r anonymus. That's why there is the 'we' in the pm that informs the offending user what he is striked for.

I always get a PM or thread reply right before or after the strike. So so far I've been able to tell who's been striking me.

rule4 and 6 strikes count twice, there's nothing mystic about it.
It is the choice of every moderator to let the offender know "who did it", personally I prefer anonymous strikes (they're not really anonymous, the admins will always be able to know who striked whom) because that way, whatever anger a strike may cause cannot be directed at a specific mod.

<< whatever anger a strike may cause cannot be directed at a specific mod >>
Not really true...Whenever a strike occurs, it is usually following a "harsh" discussion between the striked one and a mod. So the "anger" is already oriented towards a precise mod. SO striking anonymously will not help the mode to "hide". According to me, mods should not strike anonymously, if they feel they just strike in all "fairness". Otherwise, they should not strike at all.
It is pretty easy on these forums to notice that some mods are "wiser" or "cooler" than others and that some tend to strike more often than others. Like in any other community, it probably reflects real life behaviours...
To me, strike can't be anonymous since I would interpret this as a mod not taking his responsibility.
But this is not the most important thing in our beloved forums, so no big deal about it. Just my poor opinion.

I'm trying out a new moderation philosophy (pretty unorthodox to most I guess) on my new forum - I wonder how it'll work out if it gets big one day.
Basic idea: simply delete inappropriate posts and maybe lecture if necessary, and ban when things get really annoying. The decision for the latter action is going to be very tolerant.
But this springs from my nature - I don't mind deleting posts. Plus it's easier than putting up with someone and getting into an argument.

The main reason why this thread is not yet closed seems to be the interest in new approaches for the forum. And that's good, we should allways try to improve even the good things :)
@mf
I don't know if it will work... after all, will you reply to the "WHY DID YOU DELETE MY POST, YOU #$%&???" or also delete that posts? :D

I agree that this forum is far and away the place to be for A/V, however, I think it is the strict rule enforcement and prohibition of warez that makes this board better than anything else on the web. I lurked on this forum for several months before registering, and I think the mods do a great job, and this forum has more valuable information and knowledgeable people and programmers than anywhere else, and I believe this is mainly due to the rules and their enforcement.

The thread is going of topic, and I will close it. If Lord of the Discs wants to respond, I will open it again.

Deleting = censorship and I'm very much against if. If you think about it, when posts suddenly disappear and the poster doesn't know about it, that's going to cause a lot of bad blood. Thus, here moderators never delete. You may think they do because some threads to disappear or suddenly look different, but copies are kept of everything because once somebody complains and you no longer have anything in your hands to justify your actions, you come off looking really bad.
In many ways, we're a lot more tolerant than other boards where threads are just deleted, posts edited, people banned right away. It is the tolerance that allows threads like this to even exist. If you keep searching, you'll see that this isn't the only thread of this kind, and you'll find much less on other boards. But everything has its limits and that's why we have the strikes system.
Very often, an offense is so apparent that a reprimand is not needed an by striking and saying something you'd just make it worse. If you ask "where can I download a crack for CCE", I don't have to tell you that you violated rule6, because in the pm you get when I strike you, it states that in thread xy you violated rule6. I don't really have to say it twice, since the rule6 description already says that cracks are illegal and not to be discussed here.
