View Full Version : Do I still need to use Pulldown w/CCE 2.66.01.07?

Folks,

Do I need to still use Pulldown to change the framerate for my CCE compressed M2V (source was NTSC DV-AVI) file?

The reason I ask that is because I have seen all CCE tutorials state that once you are done compressing, you need to change the framerate for NTSC original source (in this case a DV-AVI file) to 29.97 fps...

However, when I finish the compression w/CCE 2.66, when I playback the file using PowerDVD or Media Player it seems to report the time correctly while if I *do* run Pulldown on this resultant M2V file, the timelimit increases considerably...

Here are the numbers:
Source test DV-AVI file time is 1 min 6 seconds
M2V compressed w/CCE is the same
however, the M2V file after pulldown processing is 1 min and 23 seconds)

Has CCE fixed this frame rate problem with recent versions and now it maintains the correct framerate or you still do need to run Pulldown on the M2V...

I also imported the M2V file(unchanged by Pulldown) into DVDLab and it too reports the time at 1 min and 6 seconds...

Thanks

Rajiv

I figure your DV-AVI already is 29.97 fps, so no need for Pulldown. IIRC (sorry, I'm a PAL guy) Pulldown is only necessary for FILM (24 fps) sources.

If your movie file is 23.976 fps, then you run 2:3 pulldown, so your stand alone DVD player can read it. The pulldown.exe program changes the pointers in the frames to tell the stand alone DVD player that it is 29.97, even though it is still actually 23.976. Most North American stand alone DVD players can only read NTSC at 29.97 fps. It seems all DVD authoring programs have issues with pulldowned files. They all seem to show the time as if the file was still 23.976. But if you stick it in your DVD player it will show the correct time.
