View Full Version : Maestro: size indicator not accurate

I've looked through the manual and can't seem to locate this information, so I'll ask you experts here: When I build a DVD project on Maestro, a small green window in the lower-right corner of the main window shows the estimated size of the result. But when I finish the project and tell Maestro to create the VIDEO_TS file, the resulting file is quite a bit smaller than what the green window estimated. For example, my current project shows "4.535GB" in the green window, yet Maestro produces a VIDEO_TS folder that is 4.15GB in size.
From my calculations the difference is not due to the binary vs. decimal differences ("gigabytes" versus "billions of bytes"). Could it be that Maestro puts in a "fudge factor" of about 2% in addition to the conversion between "gigabytes" and "billions of bytes?"

Dont forget Maestro starts with 100MB in that bottom window before you start (probably a working buffer). I've found that if I subtract that value then the figure is pretty close. It also doesnt add the values of soundtracks added to menus or subtitles I think so your project can actually end up being larger than that shown. I have had a couple of instances where it refused to make the image saying the file was too large, but the figure shown at the base was well within range. However it was correct and the additional files were from my menu soundtracks which it was not including.

Whatever it is, u r within dvd-r size up to 4.750. I found that this is the layer break point. If u go above this figure u r in size trouble.

Thanks to both. I'll look over the manual again this weekend.
Andykard: My version of Maestro does count the audio tracks. If I insert a PCM audio track, the indicator takes a few seconds, then shows a new number. It does the same for AC-3 audio tracks.

Yes, but I am not talking about the movie audio tracks. Mine counts those too. I said audio tracks for menus, those you drop onto the menu screen

the Maestro indicator does count in billion bytes, well, close enough ;)
all you need to worry about is that the 4.7 shown there you can go over a little.
