Most Aver cards that I'm aware of use BT8x8 compatible ADC chips. I've not found their software or drivers very usable -- and use an AverTV card with BTWinCap drivers with other capture software (Vdub, iuVCR) instead.

Besides the driver and software problems, how is the picture quality?

The picture quality .. is acceptable. I use either S-video (VHS) or composite ("digital" cable), and have never used the tuner for capture.
