Experiences with DVobSub 2.25 ( vfsfilter.dll ) and matroska files ?

Hi,

any experiences with this yet ? positive or negative, keep them all coming, we have to learn .....

My main questions are :

- how many substreams did you mux into one MKV file
- does playback selection work fine ? what players ?
- can you mux subs with different UTF8 codec pages, like japanese, russian, and english ?

Used the newest splitter and vsfilter 2.25. Some questions and remarks:

1) If I play my mkv (AR 2.35), I can't put my subtitles in the lower black bar. I mean, they are shown correctly. But if I select 4:3 (in the settings of vobsub), the subs should be shown in the lower black bar, but instead the image is stretched. I will try it with vsfilter 2.26 and report back.

2) There are two vsfilter.dll's in the package. Which one should I use, and what's the difference? I got the feeling this has been asked already, but I can't find the relevant thread.

3) If I mux several subs, how can I give them names. So that I can see which one is which, when I see the list in the properties of vobsub. Should I use that language setting somehow?

I tried the following, but it doesnt work:

mkvmerge -o out.mkv in.avi --sub-charset UTF-8 --language-english sub_eng.srt --sub-charset UTF-8 --language-dutch sub_dutch.srt

Wrong syntax. It should look like this:

mkvmerge -o out.mkv in.avi --sub-charset UTF-8 --language 0:eng sub_eng.srt --sub-charset UTF-8 --language 0:dut sub_dutch.srt

Please read the documentation carefully if you have quesstions about the syntax (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/doc/mkvmerge.html). All available languages can be listed with 'mkvmerge --list-languages' if you want to find out the code for your language. Yes, you cannot use a free-form language string! The language codes we use are the ISO639.2 codes.

Being from the U.S. I haven't yet had a need for more than one substream, so I'm not sure if this is the feedback you were looking for, but I have no problems when playing from the beginning with either Gabest's matroska splitter or mkxds. However, when seeking using mkxds, the subs get way out of sync, i.e. when I seek to the middle of the movie, subs from the beginning of the movie are still being displayed under the correct subs. (xvid + ac3 + srt). When using Gabest's splitter seeking works ok.

Mostly, I mux 2 - 5 .srt subtitels(mostly German/English/French languages...forced/normal caption) into MKV.
With latest VSFilter2.26 (& Matroska Splitter 1.0.1.0) & Zoomplayer 3.10 betaRC3 subtitels are displayed in a nice way.

1)I have no problems with the subtitle-display after seeking.

2)A nice feature :) is (in contrast to OGM) that the first subtitel is displayed automatically (that's cool for forced subtitels; so I don't need to enable the forced sub by hand)

3)Further, subtitle switching works also without any problems(in contrast to OGM). The selected sub. is displayed immediately. Really nice!

Great work!

But what I miss at the moment is the support of the new tagging system(also in VDMod).
But I know it's only a matter of time!:)

Did you manage to get the subtitles to show up in the black borders?
