View Full Version : dvd2avi problem with r4r

I'm using the latest downloads.
I can't get DVD2AVI 1.77.3 to work properly with r4r, even with the path properly set, as it just brings up the program and waits forever for an input it never gets. The log shows as follows:
6:55:01 AM: Plugin "AuthDVD.dll" loaded - authenticating...
6:55:07 AM: Drive d: authenticated
6:55:07 AM: Warning: Project folder "c:\DVD\Projects\ABOUT_SCHMIDT_VTS_01_PGC1\" exists
6:55:08 AM: dvd2avi
6:55:08 AM: Demuxing track 1
6:55:08 AM: Indexing with C:\My Documents\Movies\Gordian Knot\DVD2AVI 1.77.3\DVD2AVI.exe -ia=1 -FO=0 -Cs=2 -YR=1 -TN=1 -IF=[d:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB,d:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_2.VOB,d:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB,d:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_4.VOB,d:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_5.VOB,d:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_6.VOB] -CF=4 -DD=1 -MA=1 -DRC=0 -OF=[c:\DVD\Projects\ABOUT_SCHMIDT_VTS_01_PGC1\ABOUT_SCHMIDT] -exit
I even went back to DVD2AVI 1.76 and tried it and that no longer works as well. What can I do to make it work?

I think 1.77.* is not working with r4r because of CLI issues.
No idea why 1.76 is not working though...
The standard 1.76 doesn't take commandline params. Make sure its the 1.76 that comes with r4r.

I am using the DVD2AVI 1.76 that comes with GordianKnot.RipPack.0.28.4.beta.Update.Setup1.exe, and it's setup per your instructions.
First I tried 1.77.3, from earlier downloads, in its corresponding directory, and it didn't work. So then I thought ok, maybe its not supposed to work with r4r.
Then I retried 1.76, from its corresponding directory, and it still doesn't work. After the panic attack subsides, but before I uninstall and delete everything, does GordianKnot.CodecPack.1.2.exe and GordianKnot.RipPack.0.28.4.beta.Update.Setup1.exe contains all I need to start from scratch, or will I need files from earlier downloads?:scared:

you will need 0.28.3 full and 0.28.4 update...
(and you can actually check if in 0.28.3 DVD2AVI works ok)

The 0.28.4 beta update changes the directory of DVD2AVI 1.76.
Have you change the path pointing to DVD2AVI at r4r with the new dir?

I have just installed the update and i do have the full 28.3 rip pack installed, I seem to get an invalid .d2v file. I've set all the paths to point to dvd2avi 1.76, I'm about to test wit the 1.77.3 to see if i get the same error message.

make sure that plugin dir points to the location of mpeg2dec3.dll

its odd how it made in invalid .d2v project file on the first rip i did, but the 2 i did worked out fine. i haven't changed anything other than adding the dir path for the dvd2avi 1.76.. I'll check out the dll path as well.. thx

@lenOx
I reinstalled GK and DVD2AVI 1.76 works again. However, I’ve been meaning to ask you about this one. The r4r program consistently gives the following answers for subtitles, an example as follows:
6:15:59 PM: Subtitles
6:15:59 PM: Saving parameter-file
6:15:59 PM: . c:\DVD\Rips\ABOUT_SCHMIDT_VTS_01_PGC1\VTS_01_0.IFO
6:15:59 PM: c:\DVD\Projects\ABOUT_SCHMIDT_VTS_01_PGC1\ABOUT_SCHMIDT
6:15:59 PM: . 1
6:15:59 PM: . 0
6:15:59 PM: . 0 cc
6:15:59 PM: . CLOSE
6:15:59 PM: rundll32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vobsub.dll ,Configure c:\DVD\Projects\ABOUT_SCHMIDT_VTS_01_PGC1\vobsub.param
6:15:59 PM: Extracting subtitles finished
6:15:59 PM: Error: No sub-file has been created
6:15:59 PM: END RIP "ABOUT_SCHMIDT" (1 hours, 39 minutes, 30 seconds)
6:15:59 PM: Warning: Log shows 1 error message
Is this a bug, or a setup error, or something else?

oh, oh, oh, oh....
Got the same error message! Looked at the path in r4r for the respective dvd2avi. changed it to the "new" path and, see, it works again. ;) hey guys, if you change the path for file/app you have to think about, if it is referring to another app - like in this case. otherwise you will have many users using sth that is not working anymore and that is what we don't want. :sly: no problem. mistakes are possible, but to be honest I hate such mistakes  and such mistakes must not occur when professionals are programming. A bit critiques should be fine. :D
However, problem solved, but I will have an eye on you. :D
Hey, but I still like GKnot. :D

r4r errors cannot relate to GK at all... r4r and GK are being developed by different ppl now and _totally_ separate programs, i.e. do not interfacing with each other.
By packing r4r with GK we assume user know how to work with it, but if you want we can remove it at all and put disclaimer that we not responsible for that :)

it does not matter, if it works or does not. change the path and it will work again. no problema.
but fact is that it worked before and installing it now it does not. this is not user friendly.
i do not have to tell you that gknot was developed to make our lives easier. you surely know what i mean. and i hope it will make our lives easier in future.

propose a (hypothetical) solution then...
*Edit*
I'm just trying to make a point that it's not DVD2AVI which is referring to r4r, but vice versa... So unless r4r has a check for that - I have not control within GK over other apps... that's it

the new gknot versions (since 0.28.4 beta I think) have moved DVD2AVI 1.76 CLI 1.05 to its own folder while r4r is referring for this version of DVD2AVI to the GKnot root folder. you see the problem. changing the folder to the new one in the preferences in r4r is no problem. it works then again, but my opinion is that it is not good to move any files to any folder since they must work all together and if you include r4r in your rip pack you have to check, if everything works fine together. and since now it does not, until some manual intervention of the user. this is, i think, not user-friendly.
btw. i had problems opening a .d2v file in gknot. got a message like mpeg2dec3.dll has to be move to the gknot folder. sth. like that. but it was there and installed with gknot 0.28.5.

There were no need to describe that - I know what I did (and btw that was due to me trying to solve real bug: dvd2avi path settings were ignored by GK if DVD2AVI is in root folder... that was really irritating and I still dunno what caused that...). So lets face it: that was a neccessity to move it. So I ask again what is the proposed solution ? :)
You must have had something in mind when you said that it's not user friendly - or were you just proposing not to move DVD2AVI ? (now you know why I did that)

mpeg2dec3.dll should be in the path of Avisynth plugins (make sure that is correct)

my solution would be...
1. r4r has to refer to the new folder dvd2avi 1.76 is in.
or 2. write a disclaimer. :D
user-friendliness in my eyes: as less manual intervention of a "dumb-user" as possible. or let's say better "lazy-user"! ;)

sorry len0x, but i am really upset with the new version 0.28.5. i think we are making sometimes a step back. changing the directory in r4r, them moving mpeg2dec3.dll to avisynth plugin directory, what will come next. see, if you used before 0.28.2beta, you installed it and you could start ripping and backup your dvd. and now? i think this is not good... :(
btw. why has not 0.28.5 installed the avisynth plugin directory, so i do not get this error message.

If you do clean install you should never have any problems.
Unless you pay us for producing quality installers for you - nothing will be changed. You should be grateful that we're producing installers at all and not just plain zip files...
*Edit*
This forum is exact place for solving the problems - that's the only main support you have for GK - you asked question, we answer and everybody's happy.

i think i am the last who will not be grateful. what is a clean install for you? i unistalled the old version and installed the new. i did it before a few minutes. and i have still to move the mpeg2dec3.dll to a the plugin directory. but to which one, there is no in the gknot.
[EDIT]I am so stupid. selcted the gknot root directory to gknot root folder and it works now. but i have to say, although i am grateful :D, that this kind of problems did not exist in version 0.28.2 beta. Basta! :p

hold on - "Avisynth plugin dir" is a setting in GK (not actual directory yet, although I'm thinking of moving all applications and filters into separated dirs), which by default is pointing to the root of GK (where mpeg2dec3.dll should reside by default as well).
So all you have to to is make sure that this setting is correct.
(if you had custom settings before and uninstall previous version, then those settings might be invalid)

Well i'm sorry my first post is a little negative but you have turned the installation of gordian knot into a complete nightmare. It has taken me 2 hours to find this piece about the MPEG2DEC3.dll problem as it clearly states to put it in the avisynth plug in folder.
Now i have to try and figure out why i keep getting an error in the roborip log....

a separate guide is needed seeing as you have complicated the installation procedure so much leaving less intelligent users like myself to "go figure" by searching through all these forums which is taking hours.
I never had a single problem with gordian knot before and never had to configure anything except for the codec and encoding step. This new version is definitely a giant step back in terms of user friendliness.

No offence, but after spending "hours" of searching this forum, you couldn't even properly read the thread you're posting to (where it was cleary mentioned several times that DVD2AVI is no longer in the root of GK, but in a separate dir, so you have to change the path in r4r!)

and gordian knot remains a great program (and i did find it after i posted but couldn't get back to edit the post)but couldn't we have a short notepad included with all these minor details in the release ? (too late now but for future reference) so that idiots like me would know what they have to configure manually after installation ?

I think this is the right thread to asks about this question:
I was using GK 0.28.3 and R4R 0.2 then I decided to uninstall everything (and I do mean everything like ffdshow and so on) and install the System Pack 1.3 and GK 0.28.5.
I made sure that R4R 0.4 was pointing to the DVD2AVI in the appropriate directory, first I tried 1.77.3 but that didn't work and then pointed back to the 1.76 version.
My problem is that although I get a valid d2v project file out at the end I do not get an ac3 soundtrack with it - the error goes along the line of "couldn't find soundtrack 2" which puzzles me as I had clicked on soundtrack 1 to be extracted (I don't have the error log as I am not at home at the moment but if it is any help I could post it later).
Later on I tried to get two audiotracks and again I got the error though this time I had one ac3 waiting for me in the projects directory (rather than 2 as expected or none if it just refused to extract them).
Now I know that Len0x has no control over R4R (by the way thanks for all your effort on GK) but I was just wondering if any one has had the same problem I have and how it was solved - or if there's a fool proof way to install the System Pack and GK Rip Pack - especially as while I can find work arounds (like going back to R4R 0.2 or doing my own dvd2avi projects) I also have friends who like to backup their dvds but do not have the time nor inclination to spend too much time figuring out how to install the software.
Thanks
