Link do not work.
But anyway, it can happend with some small budget movies (mainly Porn) but this happend also for small low money movies, to do DVD on DVD-R.

If it's a movie from a major (21th century, castle rocks, disney, WB etc...), forget, it's a fake DVD.

Use Advinfo or DVDdecrypter to get the pre lead in information, and you will know the manufacturing brand of the DVD-R.

Also, look at the size; If it's more than 4,700,000,000, it's a DVD9 and it cannot be a burned DVD.

I have looked in Advinfo , but it came up with aspi errors , i have a installed healthy aspi layer. I can't find the option in dvddecrypter (3.1.6).

DVD-9 has to be pressed. But if you or your friend work in such press company it is not so complicated. You need master (matrix) and little time to set press machine to process your batch. Total cost could be near 20 Euro for master and 0.30 Euro per each disk. But if you want to make some illegal copies it will be little bit harder and you will need more money and some illegal press company.

So for 30 Euro and 2 or 3 bottles of good alcohol you can release your own DVD edition ;).

(This is not official price list of course :D)

i see , i only ask because , i have a dvd-9 that i purchased , it looks "real" like a commercial dvd , but as i said above , am not sure if it is. i have been thinking about it for a while now , and i now think that the person i brought it off might own a factory or work late at one were he would have means to make such a copy. it also looks like the serial numbers on the disk have been melted / smudged off. to make them un-tractable?

Oh yeah, I recently bought the 3 original Star Wars movie on Ebay. They were guaranteed an "official overseas release" and a DVD-9. Yes, it's a DVD-9 alright, but sure as heck, it's a Chinese import bootleg. It has been completely mastered from the official laserdisc, and the audio is even in 5.1 DTS and Dolby Surround. It also came with the original trailers and loads of extras. I'm positive Lucas never authorized this release on DVD, but like I said, it's mastered from the official laserdisc release, and if you've ever seen a Laserdisc, you know that 425 horizontal lines can sometimes compete with DVDs 500 lines. Anyway, the quality looks so damned good, I doubt I will ever spend more money to buy the official release. Lucas better track down all the people producing these bootlegs, or he's going to loose alot of business when the official DVDs of the first 3 Star Wars movies are finally released. He already lost me, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

thats very concerning :( as technology increases ,it seems so does the skill to detect a fake:(.I suppose in a few years DVD-9 production will be a house hold thing , and they will make the machines fit on the head of a pin lol :D.
