Hello,
I have a ATI Radeon 9200 VIVO. When capturing or previewing, the picure goes a bit darker and then 15 seconds later a bit lighter. It cycles (darker/lighter) the whole time. I used various capturing programs (powerdirector, virtualdub, etc.), but the problem stays.
I capture from the compisite (rca) of my dvd-player.

Previously I had a macrovision problem, where only a few frames repeated itself when capturing. I solved this with the ATIdisablemacrovision. And it did work. Can the darker/lighter still be macrovision related. Even when I preview vcds I made (without any macrovision) I have this problem.

I have the newest drivers for this card as well.

Thanks for helping

Leon

So does your DVD player still have the macrovision chipset enabled?

Even so it's still strange that your captures are still dodgy from one of your own VCD's.

If this is not a macrovision problem it could be down to a signal in-balance between your DVD and capture card, whereby the voltage puked out of your DVD player is too much for your capture card. Or it could be a grounding in-balance whereby the grounding requires cutting on one of the cable ends.

Just a few little questions:

WHY do you capture from DVD player and not just rip it the normal way ?

Do have the same problems when using other sources such as VCR or TV ?

Where are you from ? NTSC or PAL Country ? Did you made the right settings for it ?

Hi,

Capturing from my dvd-player was the only way to test my capture card when I got it, that is why I captured from the dvd-player and not rip.

Anyway, I received my digital sat receiver today, and I don't have the same problems as from my dvd-player. So it seems (I hope) the dvd-player (or macrovision) is the problem.

Cheers

I had the same problem backing up some old VHS tapes with my AIW Radeon. I removed the Macro-vision but also encountered the bright and dim problem. The only way I could get rid of it with the AIW was with a Sima SCC. I have since given up on all my ATI hardware for video capture. I am now using a Leadtek WinfastTV2000XP which has a BT878a capture chip. No Macro-vision problems and the image quality capturing with VDub Sync is much better for me. I find the ATI great for watching TV, but that's about it. I even remote control my ATI with the LeadTek control using Girder. Oops, getting a little of topic.
