View Full Version : Always Best to keep AviSynth and MPEG2Dec3.dll updated?

I believe AviSynth is at 2.5.2 (GKnot pack puts in the 2.5.1Beta) and MPEG2Dec3.dll is at 1.08 (seems GKnot was still using 1.0).

Being more of a newbie I didn't know if it was always best to update these on our own or wait for a pack from GKnot??? Or better yet, for our more experienced users, what versions are you using?

@iago - Thanks for your work on the old newbie howto

@Snowbeach - Thanks for your help in picking up where others had left off!

After a 4 month break it seems there is a lot to get excited about in the xvid scene. Koepi's new build (5-14-2003) is very nice and the new VHQ settings, B frames, Qpel, etc. are doing amazing work at low bitrates.

Thanks for the hard work!!

I believe it is best to not upgrade the parts of GKnot unless you really know what your doing, its an official upgrade to GKnot or one of the main developers has told you its ok to do so.

Feel free to upgrade, but don't expect support from the GKnot guys if something starts going wrong.

This is the wrong forum, as it fits best in the GKnot forum. Ill move it.

After I posted thought it probably should have been in GKnot - apologies...

All that said, about the only thing I am using Gknot for is to make the .avs file (easily done by hand after you look at it).

OK - thanks for the info...

I wasn't using the beta's but will look at them from now on.

Just an FYI - the .4 beta isn't at gordianknot.sf.net but at sourceforge.net/projects/gordianknot - as I now see listed in your sig!

;)

I use the word beta just to indicate that there some new features, which may be unstable. Non-new features should be always stable...
