Installing GK - a pair of questions

Hi, I´m a newbie. I have a couple of questions about installing Gordian Knot.

1) Why do you have to start VirtualDubMod and Nandub manually before enconding? What happens if you omit this step?

2)In the guide it says that you have to install the rippack first and then the codec pack. If you upgrade the rippack, do you have to install the codec pack again, after installing the new rippack?

1) There are a couple of pop-up boxes that appear the first time each program is ran. If you don't run them manually before starting a batch job, the job will never start due to the pop-up boxes.

2) No, once the codecs are installed, they're fine. I'm not even positive you have to do it in that order; I always install my codecs before any programs on a fresh OS install.
