Hello all,

I am trying to convert some DVD to wmv format for web download. My target res is 720x480. What bitrate do you suggest me for encoding?

I tired 800K, 1000K and 1500K. I think the quality of 1000K is pretty goood compare with the quality and size.

Well I encode all my .wmv files in anamorphic mode, in either 720x480 or 720x576 pixels. And you can get very good results (depending on the speed of the source's action) using a bitrate of just 600 - 615kbps.

If you do decide to encode the video at 600kbps and the audio at 64kbps you should produce file sizes that will be around 5000KB (4.88MB) per min.

However, the M$ o/s will always try to open/stream the files (if you leave them with a .wmv file extension). So you will have to zip them if you want people to download them easily.

On a separate note, at this bit rate you can get more than 140mins onto a 700MB CD-R!

Hope this helps
