I can't remember where but didn't doom9 or somebody mention a verion of xvix that would behave like rv9??
Any info#?

Doom9

that was purely theoretical, isibaar told me he could do it, but no release has ever been made.
I don't understand....... you mean Anime Mode in Xvid?
baker

oh right, I must have read it incorrectly.
It just sounded interesting as people seem to like the smoothing job that rv9 does and I would love to see how it would look in xvid.
Thanks for the reply,
Baker
The RV9 thing isn't anime mode, no. But still, it would be interesting to see Sirber abandon RV9 in favor of XviD because of such a mode :D.
i know........ sirber is totally obsessed with Rv9 :D
So there is a anime mode and there might be a version of xvid for anime........ sounds great. But where did i guys read it from??

I'm obsessed indeed :D
I know you all think that RV9 is blurry and a low-detail codec. RV9 is like all codecs, you have to understand how it's working to get the best of it.
Also, I won't change back to any MPEG4 codec, I like to stay on the legal side :D
I like to stay on the legal side DivX 4+5 codecs are not legal?
Sirber

They are legal, but inferior IMO to XviD. DIVX Pro is ad-ware or you have to buy it to have access to adv. features.

Aren't you ever worried that in 5 years from now, maybe there won't be any software that can play back your RV9-files on the operating system you'll be using by then - because the Real company might have died in the meantime? Shit happens. ;)
To add to Teegedeck's comment: And nobody actually wants to reverse engineer the format because only crappy low bitrate encodes were made with it :D.

...of course we're just jerking around; with helix and all I'm actually pretty confident that there'll always be playback filters for RV9.
Forgive us for teasing you, Sirber. :)

Your comments are quite aggressive. Do you guys have to much time to loose to write stupid things like this?
@Modo
Please close this thread. It's full of no-sence.

Sorry again, Sirber. I apologize. I've been in a silly mood today but didn't mean to criticize RV9, which is a very good codec indeed, or even make you feel bad. Certainly mf does feel the same way. My posts didn't contribute to the topic at all. To get back to that initial question of yours, AFAIK Isibaar thought that with some modifications like hidden pre-filtering, postprocessing etc. that are not MPEG4-standard compliant - and thus will never be included in XviD - the results would look like RV9. Perhaps you should try the crazy spin-off project of XviD called 'Kludge'. :)
Please someone close this thread.

I wish everybody around here will adopt your attitude.:)

LOL!! :D I've downloaded the "Kludge Crapy Codec tm" codec but I've not done the actual encoding yet because I really dunno which FourCC should I use here, the "BUGS" or "CRAP" or maybe even "KLDG"?, which one would you suggest guys? :D
@backer
Very informative! Here is my answer.

@Ramirez
Can you test it with FourCC "CRAP" and give your comments? :D
I agree with Teegedeck on the apologisations.
(I do have a philosophical problems with encodes at too low bitrates and with audio of even lower bitrate, so I can't believe anything would still look good.)

i am glad to hear that somebody is confident of a Rv9 playback filter........
With High Quality mode coming, i am sure RV9 will get higher rating to the community.

Apology accepted.
IMO you can hage high quality with RV9 even whitout the new HQ mode.

well they are working on support for that arent they?
RA vs Vorbis is just as bad as RV vs Xvid. Sometimes RA sounds better, sometimes vorbis sounds better (this is like.. 64 - 128 kbps). Damn crazy codecs making things hard for us :|

That's why you have to choose the best for your needs based on YOUR tests. :D

Yep, and you can even choose the best for every single movie, without committing your life to one single codec ;) ...

You know... RV9 is the best for all my encodes, at any bitrate. I made my choices and I assume them.

Once we can put Real Audio 9 in MKV, then you can just place a Vorbis and a RA9 track together in the file and switch back and forth between then to see which sounds better for your situation.

We can test that whitout matroska you know... :p

I was just mentioning this because it would be an easy way to test two audio streams, against each other, that are synched up. That way you could encode a movie and the audio track with multiple codecs. Then you watch the movie, constantly switching between tracks. That should give you a good idea what codec sounds best for that movie at that bitrate. Of course that would take extra time that many people don't care for. However, if you are anal about getting the best possible quality, it is a real possibility.
I just wish it was a easy to render two video streams simultaneously. It would be very easy to switch between two video streams that were encoded at the same resolution with the same settings (but a different bitrate). But that has limited usefulness. Perhaps someone will make a player/DSfilter that would render several video streams at the same time?
If I offended anyone, I'm sorry. I was not trying to advertise anything, but rather present a possible solution to a problem.
[Edit:] I just noticed what the subject was.... This thread is really going off topic.
