thx a lot for this one too gabest!! :D
who would've thought we could get whole subtiltes support with just 2 files!!!!!
Mmm just tried vsfilter with virtual dub output:
Using an SSA v4 file done for textsub 2.23
Apparently,
the [Script Info] is NOT USED at ALL:
meaning:
-->
non correct font size & placements
linked with
PlayResY: 300
PlayDepth: 32
-->
no wordwrap comportment
WordWrap: 2 being ignored
On another note, is it possible to have exact frames positionning in ASS ?
using some syntax like :
Dialogue: Marked=0,&7851,&7855,Speech,,0000,0000,0000,,Heh!
(frames should be inclusive)
(or using @XXX like in ecf, but @ is more difficult to reach on euro keyboard, maybe using both syntax)

Just tried the new package vsrip+vsconv.
No probs with VSRip so far.
But vsconv: this is afaik the successor of subresync.(?) But where is the nice GUI, where I could see the rendered subtitles, where I could mark some subtitle entries to save them separately, where I could see whether they are forced or not? Seems that the only functionality of this tool now is to convert the vobsub format into the three other subtitle formats. The only thing I get when starting was this tiny message box with the command line options.
Or did I miss something?

esby: WordWrap should be called WrapStyle instead. If you still have probs with PlayResY send me an example to my email. Exact positioning can be done with {\an7\pos(x,y)}.
Alphaloop: vsconv can only convert idx/sub to dvd authoring formats and was mainly made for doitfast4u. There is no new subresync except the improved toolbar version in mpc. It has the advantage being integrated with the player and the subs can be timed while viewing them on the video.

Is it a separate executable there or hard integrated into mpc? If separate, is it usable without mpc?
Otherwise, seems that I have to stay with the "old" VobSub to keep the subresync tool.(?) :-/

No standalone version, you have to keep the old too.

VSRip is a genuine absolute best! The problem I reported with subtitle colors being rendered incorrectly is finally fixed! Now if VSRip had an absolute base time override option then I would not need subresync.
On all my rips when the first cell selected is not cell 1 (about 98.5% of the time), the automatically generated VobSub Configure/VSRip timestamps are always wrong. To correct this, I must always use subresync to adjust the abolute time of the first subtitle to the value reported for the 0x20 stream in the VTS_## - Stream Information.txt file produced by the DVDDecrypter program I used to perform the IFO/VOB extraction.
It seems that there is no way to split subtitles with VSFilter or VSRip. Is there a plan to include this in future release? Because we have to keep VobSub 2.23 to split subtitles for >1 CD encodes.
