I had this problem that I couldn't download any .rar archives from the website because Mozilla (1.4b - but earlier versions acted the same way) wouldn't recognize the MIME type of the archives and thus would think that it was text, and it would display it as such in the browser (and not download it). Thanks to doom9's antileech thingy, I couldn't shift-cklick the link either, so here is what I did to remedy it:
1) Go to preferences -> navigator -> helper applications.
2) Click: new type
3) MIME type := application/x-rar-compressed
4) Extension := rar
5) Select "save to disk"
6) Click OK
And mozilla happily downloads the files correctly now.
