Hi there,
I'd like to know which subtitle formats ffdshow supports. Because I have a chinese movie that comes with a .sub file (I don't understand chinese :D ). The .idx file says it's VobSub v7 format. If this is not supported to what format should I convert it to be able to play it?

Thanks for your help,

It is as I see picture based format (idx file conforms that)- if length is couple MB it's sure.
You can't convert it to text based format, only perform OCR with SubRip.

Easier way is to install VobSub...

I tried the latest version of DirectVobSub, but when I open the movie I get a blue screen of death and have to reboot. Any other suggestions? :(

Be sure that DVobSub is not reason of your crash...
Check your machine, codecs etc...

Well, I'm pretty sure it's the reason of DirectVobSub. The movie plays fine without it installed. Here's my config:

FFDShow 23/05/2003 alpha
OggDS 0.9.9.5
DirectVobSub 2.23

The movie itself is an XviD in an OGG container (.ogm), which I extracted with IsoBuster from an XCD .bin file. The sound is OGG Vorbis.

You don't have that old Subtitle Filter package that people were using to view subs inside OGM? That thing and VobSub play about as well as ... well, nevermind as what, it's not good. :) Uninstall VobSub temp. and check your filter chain using something like Graphedit to see what all's in there... if there's no other subtitle filter, and nothing strange (source, spliter, video decompresser -> video renderer, audio decompresser -> default directsound), you should be okay with DVobSub.

No, I never installed anything for subtitles before.

Today I tried the new vsFilter 2.24. At first I got freezes when accessing the properties of the filter, but not anymore. And it plays the movie fine now with subtitles. Tried some other movies too. No problems anymore :) Maybe I was too quick installing it the first time I tried...
