View Full Version : I did another encoding using XviD after a long time not using it: happy end!
For some who remember my post about the reasons for which I was waiting before using XviD: at that time, someone suggested me to give a new try at the latest version.
Well, I did it, and I'm very very very happy with the result!
See my post on the GKnot forum:

Now, I will stick to XviD.
Yet, I'm curious to know the reason of this strange behaviour about file size with DivX 5.05...

U977, you should've done this a long time ago!!:) It's not that simply because divx5 is commercial so it's better than free xvid - think about Windows & Linux. There're two facts
1. Xvid's ability to compress is way higher than divx5.
2. Sometimes this ability doesn't show up quite obviously, but it's because the current beta version of Xvid still has some problems(or at least deficiency) with RC(rate control). But this is gonna be(hopefully) well improved in xvid's 1.0 version! -- can't wait!:D
As for me, XviD is simply the best.:)

this is a "me too" post :p
I've decided to give a try to Xvid after the release of Jonny's Enc tool (you know, I'm lazy  )
Just encoded "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" at 595 kbps (1 CD with 2 audio tracks)!! Really great result...
Well, we all know the great thing about DivX5 was B-Frame, the great thing about Xvid are double B-Frames...(and all the new VHQ seems promising)
just my 2eurocents (that are quite worthy nowadays)

me too. after the last doom9 encoder test I sticked to XviD. because of less documentation about the codec and missing a guide how to get nice results, I decided to write a guide on my own, which is available for everybody now (see sig). ;)
Warm thanks goes to teh XviD community!! :D
