Hi all,
At the time I was using GKnot 26 and DivX 5.02, everything was fine.
Since I aim at a quite good quality for my encoded movies, I very often go for 2 CDs, with compression test results around 100%.
Of course, I happened to have AVI files smaller than the size I requested, because of that.
However, since I upgraded to GKnot 0.28 final (not the latest), and DivX 5.05, I could always fill completely my 2 CDs while the quality did not look so good. Yet, as I said, my settings always aim for quite good quality.
I've done many tests, with 2 passes, 3 passes, one CD, two CDs for the same movie, and results did not satisfy me anymore.
So, I gave a try with the latest XviD developer build, and I got a file size of a bit more of 900 MB, with a better quality than what I could obtain with DivX 5.05. Same resolution, same resizing filter, same movie!
My conclusion: either XviD became much better than DivX, either I have a problem with my DivX codec.
For those who want to know: what I said above is teh result of a pediod of test of DivX 5.05 based on about 12 encoding sessions (3 per movie, 4 movies).
The second test on XviD, based on a second movie, is currently running, and I'm confident I'll get as good results as with the first one :-)
Anyone experienced the same?
Do you already have an idea at what the reason could be without having to look at log files? If not, I'll post some.
Thanks!
