Ticking mp3 expert options causes immediate crash

After a fresh install of Gordian Knot it is impossible for me to tick the mp3 expert settings, because doing so Gordian Knot causes an immediate page fault error in user.exe.
After restarting Gordian Knot it finds old registry settings and deletes them.
I had this problem with older Gordian Knots (0.26 or 0.27), but with the recent 0.28b2 it seems more persistent.
So far the problem solved itself after some new starts / reboots. I do not know the precise way how it was solved. This time restarts did not help, so I let R4R do the preparation, and after encoding to mp3 succeeded, I could do it manually from within Gordian Knot, too.
My OS is W98SE. I hope this information is enough for you to find the mistake!

which options are being selected (in lame & azid comboboxes) when you hit custom mp3 ?

There used to be a problem with those comboboxes, which I though I solved... As a final try I can suggest deleting registry keys of GK...

It must be the default values of Gordian Knot, since the immediate crash does not allow me to even touch them. But I will check later this day after a new install.
Deleting the registry values probably will not help, since this is what I did before deleting the old program. Although there still must be some registry values left, since new Gordian Knot knows into which folder the old version was installed.

I guess the problem must be associated with my Windows configuration, otherwise it should occur on other peoples computers too. And why does it go away after starting some other program such as R4R?

I must have forgotten to apply patch Beta 2 after upgrading from 0.27!
After reinstalling 0.28 I had the same problem again. The combo boxes said "-c normal" and "-h abr 128". After applying patch Beta 2 the problem was solved, some useless encoder tabs were gone and the comboboxes changed. After upgrading to Beta 2 the program paths were missing first, but after restarting Gordian Knot all paths were found automatically.
