Hi guys
I am using smart ripper 2.41 as well as DVD decryptor 3.1.5 for ripping the DVD to hard disk (OS-XP). I didn't have any problem in ripping using either of these softwares but IFO files ripped by these softwares are not being played by any DVD player like powerDVD, WinDVD etc. However, ripped VOB files are played without any problem in which features like subtitiles, menu are disables/inactive and continuity is also not maintained while watching full movie.I don't know where problem lies. Anybody can me help out?

hi and welcome to the forum,

i guess this is what you need HD playback guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/hd-playback.htm)

oh and your version of dvd decrypter is outdated. 3.1.6.0 is the latest!

Thanks Killi.... but still my problem is not solved after installing new version of DVD decrypter (3.1.6.0) and following the procedure of HD guide. Power DVD is giving messege UNKNOWN FILE FORMAT. Interestingly, individual VOB files does not have at all any problem but IFO only. Any idea about this

two more things that come to my mind:

if you just want to watch it from your hd why not just make an iso copy of your dvd to your hd, mount it with deamon-tools and watch it like any other dvd! it's explained in the hd guide too
you can create a playlist in powerdvd so this way you won't have to load each vob seperately. there's a short jerk everytime it switches between the vobs but isn't nearly as annoying as to load a new vob file every 20 minutes or so.

i have no idea why powerDVD doesn't read ifo files, i'm not even sure if it's supposed to do so...

Thanks killi....

Second alternative method with help of Daemon tools as suggested by you worked perfectly. Thanks once again:) :)

Im guessing you were ripping in IFO/Movie mode originally. This will render the ripped IFO useless. You'd need to rip in File/Backup mode for it to be of any use because only these (and ISO mode in DVD Decrypter) give you unedited vob files - required for playback using the IFO file.

Thanks for BOSS reply.

You are absolutely right that I was ripping in IFO mode but as per your suggestion, I ripped a DVD in file mode by DVD decrypter but problem still unresolved like ripping in IFO mode. I liked alternative method of ripping through DD (ISO mode)& Deamon tools but I still would like to know the reasons for not clicking the method of ripping of file/backup. Thanks:mad:
