View Full Version : ...not a valid dvd2avi project... Pseudo-solution!

Well, as I posted in other threads, I have the misterious error that Gordian Knot refuses to load a DVD2AVI project no matter what you do. I tried _MANY_ different things but nothing. Reinstalling Gordian Knot, upgrading it, downgrading it, reinstalling Avysinth, DivX, XviD, Huffyuv, DVD Decrypter, anything. Go back with system restauration. Nopes, nothing works. :(
But now, don't ask me why, I tried Gordian Knot in another user. Oooops! It works! It works just fine! And the other uses doesn't even have administrator rights!
I keept looking around, and I _THINK_ I found the solution: I went to "C:\Documents and Settings\(My User)\Configuración local\Temp" and deleted everything. All, hidden, system, etc, etc, etc.
Now it works! Just fine! :D
Hope works for you too.
Bye!
PS: If somebody knows why does this works, please let me know! :)
PS2: Sorry for my full-of-errors english.

Hello wef. It was too good to be true. Now it doesn't work... again. :(
BUT... since I found that it works with any other user, I run Gordian Knot as other user (right click, run as other user) and it works just fine. Is not a solution, but a fast and easy way to make it work. :)
You can open the properties of the Gordian Knot icon and it has an option to run always as other user.
PS: The other obvious solution would be to change the user, but since I have aaaaaaaall my settings in this user, it would be very annoying.
See ya'

Instead of running it on different windows users, you can try downloading a new dvd2avi program from the doom9.org website. I had the same problem with mine and when I downloaded it from the website everything worked fine. You can even use Robot4rip as well, but just use the dvd2avi project that you create separately after you get that error message. It worked fine for me so that's another solution, as some other people have mentioned that in the past too.

Hello Angelus.
As I posted before, I already tried many ways to make it work. No way. I followed all your thread, and others, but nothing seems to fix it.
Bye.

Ok well the same problem happened for me and when i downloaded another dvd2avi program it solved my problem :D It's weird cause i've encoded 2 movies after this error with the robot4rip and all have worked fine while opening the .d2v file again and again.

btw, this probably unrelated to the problem you're solving, but the error is exactly the same in this case (I dicovered that in the code just now):
mpeg2dec.dll cannot be loaded (or found)
There is no check for that at the moment, but I'm gonna implement one, so that this problem can be quickly identified...

The running as a different user thingy worked for me! I didn't have to re-install dvd2avi from the website either.
Obviously, I had to download the new DVDDecrypter (version 3.1.6.0) as the one that comes with the rip-pack does not work
This is definitely a bug, how come does it work for one user an not the other?
It might be a file permission problem. I'm going to selectively delete the contents of my user's Temp directory to see if I can pinpoint the guilty file(s).
Thanks for the tip! This should be included in the DivX guide!
