Have been attempting to convert some SCVD's to DVD (player wont play SVCD's). Some of the SVCD's are PAL and I used the guides and got it on DVD but player still won't play. Get error, "playback prohibited by area limitations." Guessing becasue it is in PAL format.

So since the SVCD is 480 x 576 at 25 FPS, I'm guessing I have to rencode in TMPG (720 x 480 and keep aspect ratio). Should I make FPS 29.97 or use lower FPS.

Any thoughts on the process?

Thanks a bunch!

Yep your player will only play NTSC hence the error. Good guide to do the conversion:

I too have this problem with such SVCDs (I think many of us may know which SVCDs they are, but has anyone seen an avi?), but I am trying to do the audio portion. They audio comes out of DVD2AVI as a .mpa, which I am pretty sure is actually a MP2. But the question is now how do I resynch the audio with my 29.97 frame rate movie? Do I use WSOLA after converting it to WAV? Should I then re-encode as AC3? Or can i straight transcode? What multiplication/division factor should I use in WSOLA (if I use WSOLA)?

Thanks in advance.

xiaphan, I take the audio and run it through BeSweet. In the lower left you will see a "change frame rate" feature. Choose the conversion that fits your source to output. Then convert to MP2 or AC3 or whatever you need. I do MP2 or AC3 most of the time when taking SVCD PAL to DVD NTSC.

Has worked every time.

Hope this helps.
