Well i have a techno trend dvb-c card. Using DVBControl(since progdvb freezes every 3min for me.)

I want to capture and save my recordings in SVCD format.

So which is the best ultimate way to do so? What programs do I need?

This is how I do it now:

I record directly to .mpg.
Load the .mpg file to DVD2AVI, save it as a project file(.d2v).
Then I open the .d2v file in TMPGEnc(video) & .mpa file(audio).
And start encoding to SVCD.

Now the problem is, after ~3min of encoding the picture freezes. When i open the svcd file, the pic freezes after 3min and only the audio continues... but the soucre file plays fine.

The problem is due to errors in your recorded stream. Some programs can handle them quite well (so no errors on playback), other will crash the program you use.

You should try to Demux using PVAStrumento or DS.JAR (better the second) because these programs try to correct the error, if it's impossible, they cut the broken GOP so the stream won't contain any error. Yes, if the file is full of errors, you will have lots of skips (like me with my TwinHan 1030) but if you have a decent card, you should have NO problem ;)

Let's go on.

Demux using those programs. Then open the VIDEO.mpv using DVD2AVI and create the project file.
Procede as usual.

If you still have some problems, try to use avisynth. Use lastest MPEG2DEC3.dll 1.04 that fixes some bugs and should handle as well these errors.
If it crashes again, use NIC MPEGDECODER.dll ... this should work, but AFAIK should give some desynch errors using NTSC material. I live in PAL world and the few times I used it, it worked fine and no desynch.

If this method doesn't go ... suicide you
Joke :D

Hi symonjfox,

I tried demuxing with PVAStrumento, but that didn't help..still full freezes :(. Weird this is that the recorded file(source) plays fine.

I'll try DS.JAR, you know where i can download it?

I can't remember ... search on the HDTV/DVB forum ...

If it freezes again, you should seriously try MPEGDECODER ... it's the most flexible dll that I found.

I think i am about to take suiced hehe,
I tried DS.JAR but it didn't fix the problem :(, I capped from the different channels.. but still freezes between 3-4min. The quality is on 100%, and "level" on 89-95% so that can't be the problem either. How big are the risk that the card might be broken or something?
Maybe it's to heated in the chassi?..bios says 45 Celcius.

I have tried avisynth yesterday before i posted someone else recommended it. Same prob still. I also tried recording from different apps(progdvb, dvbcontrol, dvbextreme). Encoded with CCE too.

PS. I'm living in PAL world too, & cap non-ntcs convert channels(ex. bbcprime..or rai1 ;))

Hi,

Here is the news.

1. Demux your stream wiht PVAstrumento (2.3)
2. Author DVD with IfoEdit 0.95.
3. Use DVD2SVCD (latest) to convert your DVD to SVCD.

This is quite simple and depending on your computer system it won 't take much time.
