Hi,
I'm looking for a utility that can change the date/time of each frame in a DV file. There is one on the DVSubmaker site, but the frame in the timecode is not specified, making some troubles in reacquiring the DV from the tape.
If i can't find one, i can try to make a utility that will do that, but i need the DV specs, and i can't find them. If anyone knows where they are...
Any ideas ?
Thanks

I spent last days to find information about how the timecode is written on a DV AVI file. I found info about RIFF file format, and about the OpenDML format.
This format allows to have a lot of info in an AVI file, including the timestamp / timecode. Opening a AVI, captured with Premiere, with RIFFVIEW from DaubNET will show every info i need. And it shows that the timecode streams or chunk described in the OpenDML standard are not there...
I really don't know where they are atually putting the timecode when Premiere or even Scenalzer is capturing the DV video.
I spent a lot of time analysing the DV files, but i couldn't find where they put the timecode...
I'll write a little utility to change the timecode as needed, but i need to find where they are on the AVI file ! Can anyone help me ?
Thanks a lot,
Matz

I have made a first, very draft version of such a tool: DVTimeWriter.
If people find it useful more testing and development will be done.
Currently it was tested with PAL DV files of type2 under Win2000.
Main feature of the tool is that it updates timestamp inside your existing file, it does not create new files, so you do not need to have additional hard disk space for the timestamp update.
Tool can be found on my pages: http://mvideo.nm.ru
25 Jan 2004: Just tested type1 - not supported yet.

Most probably because I had filename with capital letters. Now everything was renamed. Try again. If you still will have problems, write to my email mvideo.at.nm.ru (mvideo@nm.ru).
Unfortunately after one of my changes both Avisynth plugin and "Writer" do not support files of type1. I'm working on this issue.
Correction will be released soon.

Avisynth plugin now again suports DV files of type1.
Unfortunately DVTimeWriter tool launch was not successfull (major problems). It will not be available for download until I solve them.
Sorry about that :(

Now it seems that all major problems have been solved.
DVTimeWriter tool now available at my site (http://mvideo.nm.ru).
Write me email if any problem appears. Also all bug reports and requests for new features are welcome.
I have tested the tool with PAL files of type 1 and 2 and with NTSC files of type 2 under Win2000. And even I do not expect problems, related to NTSC type1, please share your experience of such a usage.
Read carefully "Other notes" section of included readme file.

This site may also be useful for people who have to deal with DV timestamps, e.g. if you need the timestamps as DVD subtitles (so that you can switch them on and off as you like):

My test for program utility DVTimeWriter result Very Good!!
But when I export movie with Premiere Pro the AVI-DV have 3 bugs:
1) No codec in avi-dv. I repair with program "avifourccChanger"
2) Timecode is missing.
3) Datecode is missing.
The program DVTimeWriter not work. Advise program= "DV Stream not found".
If I repair the Datecode with the program DVDTChanger the program work but advise program="Read date error wrong Date/time params"
Need I an utility for repair the datecode and the timecode?
Thanks

DVTimeWriter from 26.02.2004 don't work correctly on my XP. It write wrong minute & second value to the dv file. The minutes are not change and the seconds loops from 0 to 11.
What other tools today exists to easy change the datestamp of dv files?

Sorry, the development of the tool has been stopped and it is not supported any more.
Hi Basilik,
you wrote in May 2004 on your website "in my plans to replace a DVTimeWriter tool by a DVTimeUtility that will also extends DVTimeWriter and will bring many new features to it."
Is the development of DVTimeUtility also has been stopped?
Thanks

Yes, this has been stopped. In reality, quite a few people were interested in this kind of tool - no motivation for me to continue it's development :(
In general the engine for it exists, I would just need to finalize a GUI. But this takes time.

What a pity. If the engine exists, why not released this as separate command line tools?
