Well, I tried to convert my original Pet Sematary II DVD to XviD. I did everything using GKnot 0.28.2 beta.
As the movie is about 99 minutes and the quality is not that good (its from 1992) I decided to put it onto 1CD-R.
Used the latest Koepi build from 14th May.
I used Lanzcos filter, and for XviD the following settings:

2passes - 1st pass
- Motion precision: 6
- H.263
- VHQ 1
- FourCC: XVID
- Chroma Motion: On
All other settings disabled

2pass - 2nd pass int.
I set the same options for the 1st pass

The movie sized was the desired, but quality was not that good.
On close scenes everything was fine, but on some way views there is some "mosquito noise"

I think the problem was because I used Chroma motion. I never got this kind of problem.

You could try using VHQ4 and b-frames at 2/150/100/255 together with qpel for saving some bits and to get a sharper image.

Maybe need to think of using undot.dll and unfilter.dll to get rid of the mosquito noise.

Note, I found that downloading the undot and unfilter from doom9's download pages then I ran into compatibility problems with the latest gknot (which uses avisynth ~2.5). Search for versions that are compatible with avisynth 2.5 or later (I haven't found them yet).

[edit] try http://www.avisynth.org/~warpenterprises/

Good luck

It's much, much harder to put low quality movies onto 1 CR-R than good quality ones.

Also try mpeg2dec3 and fluxsmooth.
