View Full Version : What res should 4:3 be?

I'm just a bit confused. With the default settings in Gordian Knot, I find that GK resizes all my 4:3 movies to 640x464 which doesn't fill the screen. If I set the H-Modul to 32 (from 16), then GK sets the res at 640x480. For all 4:3 movies that are displayed at full screen, the correct res to encode is 640x480, correct? Thanks...

Well, after you crop a 4:3 movie you may end up in a situation where 640x464 gives you a smaller AR error than 640x480, nothing strange or unexpected about that. Happens now and then.

Personally I'd go for 640x480 as I don't care about a few percentage AR error, but that's just me.

In the end it's no big deal.

Hi-

I think that if you check the "Follow The ITU-R BT.601 Standard" box in the Options Tab, that you'll get your 640x480 back.

What I usually do is set 1,333 ratio manually, then smart crop all.
(I don't like the idea of resize by decoder(filter) or having black bars...)
