--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm gonna borrow my father-in-laws camcorder which uses hi-8 tapes. I want to record my buddies wedding then burn it onto dvd-r. I think the camcorder came with VideoWave software. I know its not a DV camcorder but can i tranfer the video that i record to my computer using this camcorder? I only have USB connections. thanks

You could probably get a better answer from the people on the "Capturing Video" forum, because that forum is dedicated to capturing analog video (which includes Hi-8)

Digital8 is just another DV format, i.e. DV on Hi8 sized cassettes. The regular DV capture procedures apply, so you need a firewire card (and cable).

If you don't want to invest in hardware, you can connect your analogue out to either a TV card or your graphics card's analogue in. Or you have a capture card or a USB capture device. In these cases you can use VirtualDub to capture (see capture F.A.Q.).

For best results use the digital way (firewire).
