View Full Version : Can't get subs after complete rip

I just ripped the entire DVD 'Red Dragon', but when using PowerDVD XP to play it back (using the 'Open DVD File on Hard Disk Drive' option), I get everything back but the subtitles.
I even have the original menus (scene, languages and extra material), but then I use them to choose my subtitles, I never get them, even though PowerDVD displays the correct languages but still, no subs displayed.
Any info on what to do next? I want to watch the movie in its full quality before turning it to DivX
Any help will be appreciated

Hi again!
I don't know what causes the trouble, but maybe it is some problem with the overlay in your graphic card? (But then the video probably wouldn't play at all...).
Maybe this is a solution:

You have to rip the subs into a format supported by dvdsubber, best use subrip for that task...

Maybe it's just some weird problem of Powerdvd?
Try downloading zoomplayer, it has dvd-support (get an older version, the newer versions with dvd-support are not free anymore, and just to test if it shows the subs you probably don't want to pay), you have to register the filters manually in the settings (PowerDVD for audio and video)...
The picture via the PowerDVD-filter in Zoomplayer usually looks kind of aliased for me, so I use WinDVDs filters, but you can check anyway if the subs show up there...

If you want the subtitles in your divx file, maybe you could rip them separately and make an 'ogm file instead, with Divx as the video stream, and whatever subtitle streams you want? I'm pretty sure you can do this...not sure how though...there several guides out there...

i know this won't be big help, but wanted to let you know i /never/ had subtitles when playing from HD with exactly this PowerDVD XP :(
the subtitles are there(in the ripped VOBs) tho, i can rip them perfectly with subrip. either its some sort of "feature / protection" or just a bug in p.DVD XP (and no, no overlay problem my ati is well capable of any overlay)
