Im a little confused . I have 3 versions of vdub . 1) vdub 1.51 2) vdub mod 1.511a 3)vdub sync vcr 1.492. Can someone explain when to use one over the other . Of course the sync vcr allows me to use a scheduler to start a download .
Should I keep them all in the same folder so they can share filters ,dlls etc.. Thanks

Take a look at this thread:

And don't put them in the same folder.

well,
imho it is perfectly safe to put all vdub versions you can get your hands on into one single folder. (i do this for quite some time now)

second question:
you have to take the version of vdub that suits your specific needs best.

but as long as you donīt tell anybody what those needs really are answering is a little problematic

on a nutshell:
use vdub-vcr only if you want to do timed captures (outdated version). use vdub-mod to do real-time capture avoiding audio sync-probs or if you want to handle ogg media streams etc.
more can be found in the vdubmod help menu.
