Hi,

I have been trying to convert a xvid avi to dvd for use on a DVDR and preserve the AC3 sound that is in the avi. DVD2SVCD doesnt have an option to keep the source audio in avi mode, whats the best way to end up with a nice mpg file with the AC3 instead of mp2?

I have tried authoring the mpv + extracted ac3 but its always out of sync, my author program wont allow me to offset the ac3 track!

If I use the resulting mp2 file it is in sync, it has me stumped.

Cheers,
spike.

Hello!

I´m not sure, but maybe the plugin of jsoto to author dvd´s and minidvd´s can help you (specifically transcodeac3.exe). It can be found in a sticky of the advanced forum.

thanks for the pointer to that.

I've decieded its to hard now and am just going to have to use the mp2 file. Its a bit annoying but alas, I've spent over 6 hours stuffing around trying to get the AC3 sync'd with no luck :(

Maybe one day dvd2svcd will be able to convert the AC3 encoded xVid to DVD without have to mess around with 3rd party tools.

ok I did persist and found a way to do it!

I ended up discovering that the desync was caused by something at the very start of the original AVI so I trimmed it using virtualdub. Ran the ac3 through besweet to boost it etc and now sync's perfectly with the resulting mpv file from dvd2svcd.

Now I have a nice version on a DVDR that has the 5.1 audio intact! great!

Still it would be nice to not have to take the extra steps and tell dvd2svcd to use the source file, regardless of what it is.

cheers:)

this is how i make my dvdr from divx, xvid with ac3:

first of all identify the bitrate of your divx.(25 - no prob;23,973 or 29,99 -> audio need to be corrected to the right frame rate = use ac3 machine )
allways force to pal

1.set bitrate, aspect ratio, and create no images
2.run d2s as normal, and kill besweat as it starts
3.let it run til cce finish.kill the rest of the steps
4.if frame rate is 25 go to step 5, if not run ac3 machine and correct the frame rate of your ac3 audio file from 23,973 or 29,99 to 25 ( pal )
5. run any authoring dvd software .

this method is working for me and i have sync in all the convertions i do.

I repaired sync problem with ac3 files with “ac3fix”, very small and useful program.
But works !
