I've been reading every past thread I could find, including all of the stuff on Star Trek encodes, and I'm still not clear on what would work best. I'm currently encoding Babylon 5, which is mostly film with a little bit of 30fps CGI. Here is the script I just tried, which I comes from the help file of the newest decomb filter:

Telecide(guide=1,gthresh=30)
Decimate(mode=3,threshold=2.0,quality=3)

Is this my best bet?

Seems reasonable.

It depends on how much work you want to do. I can think of two refinements. 1) Use the 'v' and 'f' manual overrides to specify the video and film sections, so there is no possibility of incorrect decisions by Telecide. 2) Use MotionPerfect to convert the video scenes to 24fps and edit them into the overall clip which you IVTC.

If I had one film to do and wanted the best possible results, I'd use 2). If I had 150 episodes to render, I'd just use your choice. :)

Right now I'm just doing Babylon 5 season 2, but I will probably end up doing TNG and DS9 someday. I finished the first disc of B5 and watched some of the CGI shots; if I'm looking for it it is definately jerky panning around the station and such, but watching it on TV is fine.
