View Full Version : PVAStrumento makes it worse

I have a DVB-t captured file that plays fine raw, with very few glitches which do not affect the synchrony.
I want to burn this on a DVD-R for standalone players after cutting out the ads.
Pvastrumento "MAKE PS" completely desyncs my movie and I was able to locate it this happening after a glitch in the first 5 minutes. I used default settings with 2048 packet size.
Also tried to "DEMUX" and mux in TMPGEnc 2.59, didn't work (same sync problem).
I am running out of ideas here. Please help.
Cheers
PS I captured the .mpg file using Nebula Digitv (www.nebula-electronics.com). And the file plays fine in the player that comes with the card not in WMP or others.

I managed to edit the raw file in M2-edit and "GENERATE" a file in sync with no ads... It plays OK in PowerDVD (like the original).
M2-edit signals that the files nominal bitrate is 15000000 but the real one is 4134000 so it suggests transcoding using 4134000, but when I do it take ages and the result is blocky and dodgy so I will have to leave it as it is.
I read somewhere that for DVD authoring I would have to "repacketize" but I am not sure if M2-edit did it already and the result is ready for authoring or not. Any clues?
I'm new to DVD-ing, still a virgin .

When authoring, the file went out of sync again.
I have uploaded
http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/town/pipexdsl/o/aowh82/Sample.zip
a small fragment (18Mb zipped) of a file captured with Nebula Digitv card that becomes out of sync when PVAstrumento encounters an error in this area (you will notice).
I would appreciate if anybody could have a look at this and try to obtain something that can be authored (in sync) to a DVD. I wasted my last week-end trying..

Hi,
I did not download the file since my modem would kill me...
But did you try ds.jar for demuxing ? Which settings did you use with pvastrumento ?
I also do my DVB-t caps with pvastrumento and it stays in wonderful sync (using Hauppauge DEC 2000-t for capturing)

To BaronVlad:
DS.jar's "demux" command keeps churning something like this:
GOP#1201, Pics expected/count 12/12 ; PTS difference -320ms (should be 0)
dropping gop(sequence) @ orig.PTS 12:56:26.685 / new Timecode 00:00:00.000
very fast and in the end it only outputs a audio file.
I have tried virtualy all settings in Pvastrumento, I think.
Also ][mux. Pvastrumento works for me as well, for most files, until it encounters some sort of weird errors like in my example.

Hm,
when ds.jar ends up with this your source file may be broken. Did you try another capture ? Is it the same ?

DS.jar does just fine with another capture. Only with this one it shows the weird message and doesn't output a mpv file just mpa.
And yes, you're right the file is corrupt, that I know, but apart for a glitch in the middle it plays just fine in the player that comes with the capture card (Nebula Digitv PCI). Sound and picture stay in sync. When I pass the file through PVastrumento the sync goes away after the glitch in the resulting program stream. If I make a program stream of it using M2-edit Pro the sync is established but after authoring the sync goes away again, very weird.
Somebody please look at it:

Hi, the author of PvaStrumento said that PVA doesnt generates valid program streams. You'll have to use PVAstrumento only for demuxing.
Try a simple program like ifoedit 0.95. Its very fast and you'll have in now time a working dvd. To guide you , choose Auhtor DVD in the ifoeedit menu, select your video and audio source which you have demuxed using PVAstrumento and then press start. Burn the created files with Nero or anyother burning software that is capable of burning DVD video.
For your information,

Remember, ds.jar no longer exists. The new (and updated) project is called x08.jar.

I understand you! It appends me too, when some very bad errors append.
My opinion (I don't know exactly how it works, but I really thing it's so):
a recorded PVA or TS or MPG stream, has its own Time Codes in the stream, both audio and video. When an error comes, the synch is lost just until the next Time information is found (they are very frequent). Obiously a DVDPlayer/MPEG2Player should handle these very well.
While you demux using PVAstrumento or DS and use some options (like, don't CUT entire gop) there appends 2 things:
1- The synch data is REWRITTEN from the scratch and the program won't take care of the original.
2- If there are some broken frames, the audio lost is a very small part of the total bitrate lost, so we could lose only few Audio frames and lose more Video frames. And there is a VIDEO DELAY.
For example and original stream should look like this:
VVVVVAVVVVVAVVVVVAVVVVVA
a broken stream
VVVVVAVVVxxxxVVVVAVVVVVA
so only 1 audio packet is lost while many video frames are broken.
The fastest and safer way for adjust it is to cut the entire GOP. The best way to correct it is not used by any program: The program should take care about the original timing infos and then cut video or audio frames only until the next timing info is found. Or better leave the audio and video desynch until the next timing info is found (and there restart from the original stream). This way should be the one that any MPEG2Player use (I think) ... I tried so many times: if I keep errors, while playing the original MPG A/V ok, if I demux it without cutting ... desynch.
I hope to be clear and right.

Firstly DS jar is much better at making in sync proggies from digitv
I have a nebula and it works great if i use ds jar for it to demux etc
but the new pre release 2.1 im on pre 8 seems really good and demuxed my files with no probs and all is in sync
goto www.digitalspy.co.uk
and look at the LOOOONG thread about the nebula there are loads of answers there about using pvastrumento and ds jar and reccomended courses of action to keep things in sync for conversion to divx
