I've burned a few hundred video DVD's, and I've got that whole process down pretty well. I always burn in Prassi or DVD Decrypter. I never really liked Nero very much.

Now I'm trying to backup some data to DVD's. I've done it before, but now it's giving me troubles. When writing 4 GB of data in several directories, Prassi always aborts as soon as it initializes the disc, ruining the disc. I've had to use Nero, and the discs it makes have compatability problems. They burn fine, but then when I try to read them, it takes the DVD-ROM about a full minute to recognize the disc, and it often doesn't recognize it at all.

I know this is a bit off topic for Doom9, but anybody got any suggestions?

i'd say :
try to recognize the disc with your dvd burner
try to burn on a great quality disc (pioneer, apple...)

I'm using Verbatims. Never had a problem before. I was just wondering if anybody had ideas about something I might be doing wrong in Nero, or if anybody had another program they've had luck with burning data DVD's with 70,000+ files.

BTW, are Apples actually supposed to be good? A friend of mine gave me some "Apple" DVD-R's to burn some stuff on, and DVD Decrypter identified them as Princo. One got spit out 90% through burning, and only one of them would play the 2nd half of the disc in my player that works with $0.60 Riteks just fine.

i'm using RNM 4.5
in the "Edit -> Tools" i have the "File system verifier" option, you might use this tool before burning, i didn't know you had so many (70000) files to burn
