View Full Version : Freeware list new update (WIP)

Hello.

After a long time there is a new update in the horizon :) .

Any comments would be appreciated. I've named this "alpha" because there are many things to add and change.

Things that have been changed since the last update:

-every link opens in a new window
-some sort of anti spam against the mails from the developers
-new categories/sub-categories (audio, graphics, video)
-new navigation

and the rest...

Especially the audio part is full of "here be dragons" and "?", it's "alpha" after all :) .

I will not post here until I make some major changes or to reply to some of your comments, so just take a look every once in a while if you're interested.

Aah, the link:

*Alpha link removed*

Cheers,

Mijo.

"After much work I have finally finished my new update of my Freeware list. Please, comment, critise, give me moral support as it's made for you out there... BTW, my form doesn't work like it should, right now, so you can use the PM/email/reply function of the board to contact me until I fix it (should take a couple of days).

*Marten (programmer of mpeg2mpeg) - for his nice mails and the anti-spam hints
*Michael Moenning - for the german translation and maany suggestions
*the whole VideoXone team for their patience with my spamming in the mod forum ;-)
*DickD, selsek, S_O for their great comments on HA
*trbarry, bergi, symonjfox, Dolemite for their great comments on Doom9

and all the rest I've forgotten! And of course, to the people who find it useful...

All the best,

Mijo."

*sigh*

I'm getting old.

I even forgot to thank Doom9 for his "ok" that I use his forum for off site stuff... Thanks, Doom9!

Anyway, going to take a few hours break.

All the best,

Mijo.

I also bookmarked it. Haven't looked everything over yet, but I did replace Notpad with Metapad. I set Vdub as a viewer, so now I can edit my .avs scripts and just click a button to open in vdub. very cool.

Thanks for your work.

Very nice Ookami. Before I noticed the "side menu" I tried to download the list and got a CRC error. Tried 2 times and both times would not let me extract the webpage.

Works fine here. Be sure to use a WinRAR version above 2.9. If all fails try 3.11 .

I've downloaded it several times and it always is ok.

Could you please write me what WinRAR version you use?

Cheers,

Mijo.

Oops. I thought WinACE worked for RAR also. I just downloaded WinRAR and it works fine.

Is just my copy of Mozilla or is a good part of the Intro page, and some of the software details in black text on a dark gray background? I love the side menu too, but there are large portions I just can read.

Hopefully it's just me.

@Christian

The link does work. BTW, what link do you refer to? ;)

BTW, VirtualDubMOD is added and even Matroska is mentioned ;) .

@TheBashar

Hmm, with my Phoenix 0.5 it's all readable, could you please make a Screenshot? So, I can look into it... Thanks for your time!

Thanks to all of you, who are replying...

Cheers,

Mijo.

i have to say too that the text is not very readable on a TFT lookinf from a nonoptimal angle where other text (black on white/ or the red parts of your text) is still very well readable.

i guess it's a problem with contrast... (combination of TFT and colors)

it looks fine when you are sitting in a correct angle though

for me it's hard to read as well. black on dark grey:

hmmm, just rechecked, when i resize the text, the black turns to light and readable grey, and stays that way. so u have some 'onload' that's not getting executed?

Ookami,

Here are some screen captures. They are reduced in resolution, but I think you should get the idea. The first one shows how part of your intro page looks normally. The second shows what it looks like after I've highlighted it with the cursor (click-n-drag). There's text there that I didn't even know existed before!

Higlighted:

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your work, both of you. Very appreciated.

First, do not use the alpha folder anymore. I will remove the link from my old posting, here.

*Obsolete link removed*

It helps very much, I will try to find a solution to this one.

Cheers,

Mijo.

Thanks for all of your reports. I've asked fISH to do some more testings as he has many browsers installed, and here are the results:

- Internet Explorer 6.0 (Win2000): no problems
- Opera 6.06 (Win2000): no problems
- Netscape 4.72 (Linux): no problems
- kfm (KDE1, Linux): no Side Menu (the "browser" doesn't support Java/JavaScript)
- Konqueror (KDE3.1, Linux): no problems
- Mozilla 1.4b (Win2000): same problems like you've reported (it seems that when you remove "ssmItems.js" from the HTML source the Mozilla displays the files correctly)...

I've tested my list on these browsers, only:

-IE 6.0.2800 (Windows XP Pro): no problems
-Phoenix 0.5 (Windows XP Pro): no problems

I will try to solve the problem, ASAP, as, sadly, one of the most popular browsers out there has a problem with displaying my site correctly :( .

Thanks to all of you.

Cheers,

Mijo.

Er, you two had problems with Phoenix? Strange, worked great for me even before...

Can someone who had problems with Mozilla, check the new upload?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Mijo.
