Hi there:

Objective: make a (S)VCD from my Digital8 Camera footage.

I captured a small clip ( about 6 minutes ) of video using the firewire port.
I used Premiere ( 6.x ? ) for the capture - the only codec that was available was the Microsoft Codec ( this is a Windows 2000 box ).

The captured AVI file was in excess of 1.3 Gb !! ( for 6 minutes)
*** Is this is the "normal" size for something like this ?
sounds a bit excessive to me - but some of the more experienced people here would know better ..... ???
EDIT: And yeah - I read here that the capture should be in type2 AVI - I could not find any such option :( - is this also a codec issue ?

(2) - I used AVI2SVCD and got really good results ( using CCE ).

So my question is about the captured AVI filesize.
Are there any other codecs that I can use to make this AVI size more manageable ??
This is just home video and the ocassional soap/sitcom captured from the cable box ( using the DV-in of the camcorder ). So quality is not at a level of DVD :)

Any inputs ???

Thanks in advance :)

Yeap for DV is 25Mbits/s for video plus uncompressed audio.

Yeap, this is, try a vfw codec like MainConcept, or try to capture with WinDV, I don't know if it works with Digital8.

Nope, AFAIK, DV is just like that...
