Hi

I have hit across a slight problem, this movie relies on selective subtitles ie: when there are chinese speaking seasons you see english subtitles, when I ripp this movie from PGC13 and Angle1 I lose all the selective subtitles, I establish this by using IFOEdit to create new VTS files on the IFO ripped (DVD-Decrypt) ver of the movie, playback with PowerDVD and they are not there until I turn on the main english subtitles which I do not want, Any help?

Below is how I normal rip a movie to 1 DVD-R.

1. DVD-Decrypt the entire movie to hard disk, In this case not possible cause it is a Angled movie.
2. IFOEdit out all the extra crap leaving just the movie.
3. Playback with PowerDVD make sure everything is OK
4. Get VTS on final VTS files.
5. Process with Pinnacle Instant CD\DVD to fit on 1 DVD-R.
BINGO.

Thx, in advance.

What you're talking about is forced subtitles I guess. I don't think you can do this with ifoedit, you probably need an commercial authoring package to do that.

this might help:

I used Doom9's guide to using SubRip to get the subtitles from the original subtitles, but you can get it to show just the forced subtiles, in one of the ooptions settings. I used DVD Maestro to encode my final movie, and if everything is in place, u insert the sub tittles and then where the forced subs are u edited them, remove the sub picture, and add a better sized sub title, as I found that subrip's subs were too big. Plus this way u can select a better font to use (with a bit of limitation though).

I used this method, although this is not in full detail, on Triple X and it runs fine, no delays in audio or subs.

Cheers for the reply fella's,

If I could avoid re-encoding with DVD Maestro it would help, I have never been able to figure out how to do this, my brain must be to small or somthing, it is shame no one else has backed this movie up with this method, maybe they would be able to help :( .

I have a complete ripp of the movie on my hard disk, if only Pinnacle Instant CD\DVD can handle multi angle movies I would not have to use this method :( .

Anybody else got any suggestions :scared:

Earlier i said that I used DVD Maestro, for my Final DVD encoding, but subrip does have other export types as well, other than for DVDMaestro. Another usful feature of subrip is that u could find the time codes for each subpicture, and as each timecode has a .bmp picture saved, u could probably manually put in the text from each sub, into the correct timescore, whatever software u are using.
I imagine that it depend on each software capability, as i have Instant CD+DVD, and I could not find a area to insert subtitles.

Hi

I think I may of solved it, I used DVDToolbox this time, below is how I got it to work: -

1. DVDDecrypt entire DVD to hard disk.
2. Load DVDToolbox and ripp again but this time PGC12 - Angle1, keeping all subtitles intact, I removed the director commentary.
3. BINGO, keeps all forced subtitles.

:D
